    hey guys.i am a noob.i just purchased a 1981 maxim 750 for $300.00
i took it home charged the battery and cleaned the carbs.believe it or not it fired right up. 8O
i am on a limited budget but want a chopper so this is my start.
i stripped the bike of the unnesessary weight.turnsignals, front fender,
stock gaudy seat, and front brakes(heck they are overrated lol)
i then dropped it by 4.5 inches with solid struts.placed a trailer fender
painted the frame gloss black and the tank and rear fender nickel grey.
i pinstriped by hand a lil' tribal art to match both.put on a set of drag bars and a 4inch headlight.
i got the bike cheap added a lil'over $100.00 in parts and blood.it is not occ
but it is cool and my first attempt.
i know i will change it again this winter but for now i am riding it till the wheels fall off.
hope to learn alot about these cool bikes from all of you.

70% of your breaking comes from the front. I think your crazy for taking them off. Personally I love the look of a nice rotor spinning up front.

Hope you never have to stop suddenly. Back brakes dont work well by themselves. Could be a disaster. I dont think the bike is street leagal without them anyway. To each his own I guess. Ride safe.

Howdy to you Meiworld, glad to have you aboard. Sounds like you have a lot of sweat equity into the machine. I'm going to join the choir and harp on running without a front brake. Dangerous to say the least. Sure, it looks cool but sliding into the immovable object with unstopable force isn't high on the cool list. Do yourself and those you love a favor and get some stopping power up front. You'll be glad you did.

Hi there are a few nice chopper XJs here, some I quite like the look of (not really a chopper guy meself). Lots of fun making a bike uniquely you though. Look forward to seeing pictures :).

OCC don't make choppers they make show pieces that are meant to sit in corporate show rooms not ridden. Notice when they "test ride" them they never go fast or go round corners!

Choppers are made by people like you who make their own bike and ride them!

Ditto on the front break though, put it back on!

I thought of taking my front brake off too a while back, and now I'm looking for a dual disk front end instead. Anyone have one they want to offer to me?

Got a complete front end off of an 80 XS750/850. Dual front rotors, forks, air adjustable, not too shabby. I'm not fond of the rim, rather ugly (looks too much like a Harley).

a few changes on the bike.i tried the indented sides.beat the heck out of my big old tank with a ball hammer and am bondoing it.
also am building an inverted springer.nearly finished.
i cut up a tractor seat and fit it to my tush.placed gel pads on it and covered in a piece of scrap leather and put a lil tribal art on the leather with a woodburner.
making my own handle bars kinda like whiskey bars out of 7/8ths

oh and the front brake is back on.
