Hi all, nice to be here, thanks for letting me join. Just bought an '82 650 Maxim. Had one exactly like it before except it was black and this one is baby puke green. I liked the old one except for a tendency to backfire. Kept it for 5 years until outdoor parking in the Pittsburgh winter caused the rust to become a bit much and still sold it for more than I paid for it. This one is in really good shape aside from the color, VERY minor surface rust, no dents, new paint, runs well and the deciding factor, was $425. It needs tank emblems and a back tire and I'd really appreciate recommendations as to sizes compatable and best performanc for cheapest price. I'd also like to find a reasonable sissy bar/luggage rack if anone has one they're trying to pass on. Again, nice to be here and looking forward to participating in the future.

Welcome to XJBikes Herne! Looks like you have a good excuse to custom paint that beauty! $425 for a decent running XJ is a bargain for sure. Shinko makes a decent tire for the price, Dunlop would be the next best bet but a little more pricey. I believe the size for your bike is 130/90/16, but you should be able to tell from the existing tire-just wait a moment here and someone with the exact year/model will chime in to confirm or deny.

The sissy bar won't likely be very reasonable as they are in fairly high demand, but with $$ you saved on the purchase price it seems justifiable. The emblems can be purchased, but avoid Ebay for the most part they are overpriced there. Enjoy your time here.

Thanks for the heads-up on the brakes, It needs a rear tire anyway, so I'll check the brakes when I pull the wheel.
