I have an 1982 xj750j, when i bout it, it had no glove box on the back, nor a sissy bar. I want the glove box, but not the sissy bar. Do they mount to each other? do they have too? Im trying to buy one off ebay just for gloves and glasses and a proper plate mounting area for the stock rear fender/light i picked up.

The grab rail/sissy bar mounts seperately from the rear tool box on the 750 maxim.

The tool box mount to the rear frame hoop with M6X20 bolts. Make sure that any toolbox that you get includeds the metal support bracket.

ok, thats helpful, but still leaves a question. on the "tool box" as ill refer to it from now on, it appears to have bolt holes on the vertical lips of of the box, what are these for? and am i correct in thinking the seat acts as a lid for the tool box? thanks, im just trying to get a few luxuries back on my maxim :)

Yes the seat acts as the lid for the tool box. You will find that those verticle flaps will attach to the upside down hoop on the rear section of the frame.

Does anybody have a picture how the glove box mounts on a 750 maxim? i got mine today with the bracket inside for mounting and the plate bracket outside, but when my seats in place, the mounting bolts arent close to anything but my fender. i'm thinking of custom making a mount at the very end of my frame tubes that goes across for something solid to mount to. i thought it mounted to the peice the rear of the seat rests on between the two seat releases.

No. I did not realize that you had a modified frame. Shoot us a pic of the rear of your frame. We can figure out a way to get that toolbox, and plate mounted.

You may need to get the rear frame horns from one of the bikes being parted out over in the sale section.
