Bought for a project but after reading this forum for a while I lack the patience to go thru with it. Would like $450 for it but will accept entertain offers. I am located near Pittsburgh, Pa. May be willing to part it out if I can get at least $450 out of it. I was in the process of rebuilding the carbs. I purchased new bowl gaskets, float seat and valves. Wife gave me ok to buy a new one. It will need a lot of work but will be a nice project for someone if they so desire. I also have a rack and sissy bar that I can sell separately. Let me know what you think. Thank you.

    Cwaseman,

Looks like you have a complete bike there. IMO you know you better than anyone here but if it runs and has good compression you might want to hang on to it for minute. While "patience is a virtue" I understand that the acquisition thereof can be a trying process. I can't speak about any other make bikes but these are strong, durable and for the most part well built bikes. Should you get that bike running to form you will find that out yourself. Then again, should you go ahead with the sale or part out it should go fairly quick for $450. Good Luck with whatever you choose to do.

Thanks Gary. After the work I put in I wanted to at least see if it ran. It fired up and I verified it runs. It will not stay running due to I do not have the floats set properly. The carbs definetly need to be properly adjusted and may even need to go to the Church of Clean.

    Cwaseman,

I'd suggest that you hang on to it like Roc said.....slow down a bit, don't get so hung up on getting frustrated. Get yourself your new bike since SWMBO gave you the go-ahead (hang on to THAT one, too!.....she GAVE you the go-ahead to buy a new bike?!?!?! That's a keeper, right there.....) yup, you can tell her we said so, too. LOL

Keep the 650 maxim, make it a longer-term project and ENJOY building and restoring it. Then you can take it out for special cruises, and people will drool. Do it right, and you could aim for a trophy. It took me over 8 years, but I got a 2nd Place trophy with my 650 maxim. You can do it, too.

It's not gonna hurt you to have another bike to ride. Heck, some of us have more than two.............

If you decide to sell it at THAT time, you'll get a lot more for it in good running, on-the-road condition.

For what it's worth......I JUST carried (CARRIED) a 650 maxim into my shop. It's a basket case........forkassembly and wheel is on the frame, nothing else is. It's all in boxes, and the engine is torn down to the block. Yet I'm not frustrated. It's probably gonna be two years or more before that's back on the road unless I get done with ALL my other projects and jobs, but its simply a matter of "it gets done when it gets done".

Take your own time, and enjoy the ride and the learning curve.

    Best,

    dave fox
