Well I figure it would be a good idea to get a set of raingear for my cross country trip that I have planned for the summer. Does anyone have a set and can give me advice on what to get or not get? What do you think of the PVC apposed to vinyl or nylon? I would like to keep the price to about $50 or less, I would rather spend my money on parts instead of cloths. Here are a few sets I was thinking of...

I can't really help - I have all JR textile gear and it's mostly water proof... the biggest improvements I found were winter gloves (water proof) and waterproof boots... again JR. They cost a bit more but are very comfortable, don't have laces, and offer way better protection than most boots - plus they're easier to get on and off than some and not bad to walk in.

I have nylon 2 piece Technic rain suit. I got it last fall and it worked very well. I don't have a windshield and I do lot's of highway travel. It also works very well on colder days to protect me from the wind. Usually I wear it over my leather jacket and jeans. It takes up little amount of space in my saddle bags :D.

look around for a dry jacket... if you can find one with a blown gaskets you could probably get it around 50$ and it would be perfect to keep you about 100% dry if you want to be totaly 100% dry you could replace the blown gaskets with new glue in ones fairly cheap but most peopel dont like to bother with that and just sell them... Check out some locak paddle shops if you have them, if not search ebay. New they go for 250 - 350$ and compleat dry suits will run you much more... but their nice to have and getting a used one isnt a bad way to go for the cost.

    Check out:

And check out the rain gear section and see what people like.

I've also heard great things about Frogg Toggs suits.

I bought some insulated Wrangler jeans from here for $29.00, you can't buy a pair of reg. jeans for that.
I really like them they have been just right for riding here lately.
There lined with thinsulate, and then an inner layer of fleece. Very comfortable.
They also carry the same jean for hunters with some sort of covering to act as a brush guard. I thought these would be great for cutting the cold wind.

I use leather chaps and leather biker jacket and carry a slicker jacket for a back up. Thats what I do now but have been giving some thought to other options. (the way this gas stuff is going, I see the little XJ coming into play more & more)
