Recently i bought another XJ900 as spare parts or possible project .

The bloke I bought it off said it started but fuel leaked everywhere so at this stage I am treating it as a non runner and don't really know what sort of condition the motor is in at this stage.
So first of all I decided I better have a look at the carbies and yesterday I pulled them out and stripped them down. Now apart from being really dirty they seem to be in reasonable condition however there is a small pinhole in 3 of the diaphragms which brings me to the point. I don't want to spend much money on this at such an early stage until i know what the rest of the bike is like so I am thinking repairing them and have found in my research that Elmers probond seems to work quite well.

Has anyone here tried this or have any other suggestions?

Also has any one tried the JBM industries diaphragms and if so what do you think of them? At $19.50 each they are a lot cheaper than getting complete slides.

I'm very happy with the JBM diaphragms that I put on my bike. And Ghost, those aren't the JBM's. With the JBM's, you cut the plastic off because they are constructed with a thick rubber section that goes around the sleeve.

    Hi Trokel,

I tried the liquid electrical tape on the two damaged diaphragms I had, it worked well for a while, then broke down & didn't work.

The JBM product was great & arrived here in about 1 week with the $3 postage!!

I only replaced the two damaged diaphragms & it works fine.

    Cheers,

    Tim

    Thanks for the replies.
Sounds like the JBM ones will be the way to go in the long run. However I might try the patch job first up just so I can get it running to see what sort of condition the motor is in.
