I've been riding my Seca to work every day for the past couple of weeks due to my truck being down. (Not that I'm complaining... ;) )

Anyway this morning I didn't have time to let her warm up really and it sounded like she misfired a bit and made a popping noise intermittently until she warmed up.

I haven't colortuned her yet since putting pods on her so I'm more than a little concerned about running lean.

Is the "popping" normal under these conditions?

if yu put filter pods on it yu will have to rejet to compensate for the massive extra airflow......so yu most likely are very lean. dont run run it hard with a lean condition......yure better off to be a little on the rich side than lean......pull a plug ans see how yure burnin.

Yeah I'll probably do that when I get home today. I already _know_ the tuning/carbs are problematic right now because I can't run her with the the choke all the way off in her current condition.

*sigh* I'm probably going to have to go back to driving the truck now that the parts came in for the rearend. At least until I get the bike properly tuned. ($55/week in gas. :-( )

Which oddly is what the Colortune I just bought cost me without shipping:

He still has three available at this time too.

    Lean backfire!

    Lean is BAD!

Up a size in pilot jet, maybe up for the mains too.

Nah. I know what's doing it. I haven't tuned the bike - for the pods or otherwise. I checked the plugs this afternoon and they look fine.

    About like "normal":

I'm betting that I just didn't have enough choke this morning and rode her too soon. She didn't do it after warming up nor on the ride home. I'll probably run with a little heavier choke for the time being - at least until the colortune kit arrives. In the meantime I'll fix my truck now that I have the parts.

I did find someting else of interest though - the number 4 plug wire is bad. Came off in my hand when I went to pull it off the top of the plug. I was able to clean the connection and re-assemble it and it seems to not run any worse than before. I'm picking up a set of wires this Thursday if I can find them locally.

Speaking of the ride home - the wind had a better chance of killing me than the bike did. :-(

    K,

Still is a lean backfire you are getting though ;).

Plugs looking good means your needle and mains are ok. You don't run on idle eh? :D

Running on part choke like that ain't a good idea, untill your colour tune gear gets there try a 8th further out on the mixtures, if no better a quater. If that don't get rid of the backfire (and even when you colour tune it might not, but hopefully it will) go up a size on the pilot.

It is important for the wellbeing of your engine for the Tune to be right.

Remember to sync first then colour tune!

Anyway, best of luck with her.

Wind is fun, 50 - 60 MPH gusts here yesterday!
