Can somebody help me out with this? I need the width of the swingarm at the pivot... A measurement between the frame rails would be fine. If someone wouldn't mind it would help me out a ton. Thanks!

I can grab that measurement on Thursday if you would like as I have the swingarm off ATM.

With or without the bushing caps on?

Could you do the one from the centre of the swingarm pivot to the start of the axle slot as well please?

Sorry, I just saw the question you had there, without the caps is preferred, I'm trying to come up with a spacer set to put this swing on a different frame.

Aw shit, totally slipped my mind, so sorry.

Would Tuesday be okay? That's when I work next as its at the shop I work at about to be painted.

Otherwise I could go in Monday and check if that would help.

    I got you covered.

I happen to have a brand new (NOS) 550 swingarm hanging on my kitchen wall (don't ask.)

Pivot pipe width without caps is just a hair over 7 1/2"; more like 7 17/32" probably is 191mm but my kid has absconded with my metric tape measure.

Length from center of pivot shaft to beginning of axle slot is just a hair over 18" so I'm going with 46cm.

But why??? :p lol (actually no need to answer really, if I had NOS parts that didn't desperately need fitting I'd probably display them. Actually I have a new turbo waiting to be fitted to the Supra and that's on the mantlepiece right now so I can look at the beauty of the shiny new castings)

Haha reminds me of a buddy who has a distributor on his mantel, lol

Glad Fitz got the measurements covered.

That the swingarm you're doing the needle bearing conversion on Fitz?

 I used to have an ashtray that was an Alfa Romeo 2.0 twinspark piston and half-conrod... Boy are the bottom end's weak on those!

Needle bearing conversion sounds good, never seemed a good idea to trust swingarm alignment/location to plain bushes (metal ones always sieze, plastic ones are.... well, plastic...)

I've just been looking at an XJR1300 box section swingarm to put in my 550, looks like I'll have to keep looking :(

I shouldn't have looked at ebay

I guess it depend on how much could reasonably be machined off the XJR's pivot & whether you could get enough off & still line the chain up. 3"-ish Longer swinger could be seen as an advantage on some bikes but I guess you aren't overly worried about flipping the 550 on hard launches :?

8O Oh golly. With a bit of work that might just fit; the 207mm is a bit tight but some spacer-tweakage could fix that.

I've seen Pacific-rim produced aluminum arms for the XJ400; one of those would bolt right up. Back in the day, Cal-Fab here in the States produced one; there's a forum member that has a 550 Seca that he got with one on it.

You do know that the box-section Radian arm is dimensionally the same, right? Except it's steel and I'm not personally convinced it's really any stronger.

Well, for what it's worth, I'm taking measurements on my 650 frame and a 550 swingarm I picked up for $20. The spacers seem to be very feasible, so I think my little project may end up as a cafe racer. I am having trouble deciding on using the bearings or bushings though. I would think bearings wear better, are there any other pros or cons to be aware of?
