Just received a set of taper head bearings in the post. Just wanted to confirm before I tear it apart that the lower bearing is a 32006 and the upper a 32005X.

Before anyone points out I have a 750, this model uses the 900 31A type rolling chassis so I need to order 900 parts!

    Cheers

Steering bearings part numbers in the XJ900RK parts manual are listed like this:

    lower 93332-00008
    upper 93332-00023

Yeah, I checked the part number in the book too, in my 900RK book they're listed as

    6 93332-00001-00 BEARING . .

    7 93332-00001-00 BEARING . .

That has to be wrong since they're obviously gonna be different sizes (unless they mean you to order one part and get the pair, doesn't make it out that way though...

was hoping the standard bearing number would be listed but Yam want you to only buy genuine so only the part number

The numbers quoted are bog-stock bearing codes and (if correct) what you'd ask for in a bearing factor/engineering shop.

Nice little side note to that, when you buy (ball not taper) bearings by number like that, you can ask for C1/2/3 clearance, a lot of 2 stroke motors are originally spec'd with C3 but people find C2 or 1 lasted longer!

    Cheers for looking though :)

Well, let me check in the cross-reference database, sometimes there are aftermarket parts numbers suggested, if we're lucky, your bearings numbers will show there.

Thanks, just had a look on some german xj forums and roughly translated I think they are, although there was another number mentioned as well :? .

If they don't show up I'll just pull the forks & check first, not THAT hard to do it's just nice to go in knowing you got the right parts to finish up the job

No luck for the lower bearing, i don't have any other number.

For the upper bearing, the following numbers appeared:

    93332-00001
    93332-00023
    93332-00079
    YG9-00906-17-3G

Not sure it will help you at all...

No worries thanks for taking the time to look anyhow, I'm pretty sure they're correct & I don't *need* the bike in one piece so will pull the forks out tomorrow 8)

    Cheers, Dan.

when you have the bike apart remember if you have a pair of calipers you can always check the diameter of the bearings and the races. I always check stuff with those handy dandy things just to see if their are any differences, usually stuff is dead on, BUT we are all human....:p

Yup that's true, I'm hoping that the number will still show on the old bearings too but if in doubt get the vernier out
