The article I'm looking at tells me that's a 750E-II model.

    "XJ750E (1981)

This is the XJ650R export model fitted with the 750R (or A) engine and slotted front disk brakes. At the time 750 class bikes were the largest allowed in the Japanese home market and this bike was designed to be an unobtrusive “sports” version (ie: read “cheaper” version) to complement the flashier high-tech 750A model."

    (snip)

    "XJ750E-II (1983)

1983 saw the 750E grow into the E-II model. Fitted to the larger frame used elsewhere for the 900R, the engine grew to 749cc thanks to a 0.1mm extended stroke. Larger valves, reworked cams and slightly larger Mikuni carbs bumped the power specifications to 72.0ps/9000rpm and 6.20kg*m/7000rpm. Unlike the 1984 XJ750RL exported to some markets, this model retained the anti-dive front forks of its bigger brother. In fact, the only obvious difference is the muffler design."

BOTH understatements. What it is is a testament to the high-mileage capabilities of the XJ series, unless it's been rebuilt once already that IS a lotta kliks.

Looks to be in beautiful shape; worth it even if you have to dig up another 750 to drop in it, methinks...

For it to have that many KMs on it and be in that good of a condition, somebody along the way (not necessarily the seller) knew what they were doing. It has to have been well-cared for to get that kind of mileage on the clock.

Let alone being one heck of a rare bird.

I wonder what it would cost to ship a bike from the US to Australia?

I was looking at prices on the 2009 Yamaha FJR1300A as an example.
$AU22,500 Aussie price compared with $AU15,500 US price (admittedly AU price is ride away and US price is plus dealer charges etc)
With the Aussie dollar currently strong against the Greenback I wonder if you factored freight, sales taxes, roadworthy modifications etc if you would come out enough to make it worthwhile buying new bikes from overseas?

    Thread necro alert! 8O

I've probably asked before and I'll probably ask this till I'm blue in the face, since nobody probably knows, but does anyone actually know how many ACTUAL 29R model XJ750E-II's were made/are left?

So far the only confirmed 29R's I've come across are...

2 in NZ & Aus (Kiwi & Alive of these fair pages long ago, I'm 88% sure the one on Ebay WAS in fact Alive's as I believe he did sell it a couple of years ago now),
    one on Japanese Yahoo
    and the one I got...

Apart from that, there was a tatty old black "1985 E/E-I/E-II" thing that's done the popping up on here under a couple of diff owners back in the '08's, another that turned out to be a 31A with 2 29R engines(!!!) (wonder where they got to 8O tried contacting the owner but he's long gone from here  ) and whatever the one up top of this thread actually was...

Can't have made so many if they only stamped the cases "29R" but I like numbers, they make me happy! lol

EDIT-: OK 5 confirmed by my searching, Kiwi's - Alive's - Yahoo.JP one - Mine & a guy who posted a few times here called NZJohn650... German site says 880 made, but Alive's (I think) chassis number seemed to be number 1030 (29R001131 - model start point 29R000101)

I,ve always wondered the same thing Crow. How can the local dealers justify a $7000 price difference in the same bike , particularly when the Oz $ buys 1.04 US $ ? . Do you think we might be getting ripped off, surely not , the dealers would never do that !!,
    cheers , Murray

I did post a thread necro warning, his post is about 2.5 years old! :D

Just been thru the ball-ache of contacting Yamaha Japan to see what they can tell me about the bike, time will tell if they respond or..... :?

If anyone else actually has one of these, I'll consider starting a 29R register for us lol

Hi there. Iv'e been reading as much on this forum as I possibly can. Gotta say its great to finally find some information about my bike!! I've had nothing but a headache when trying to piece together what it actually was. Turns out its a 750e ii in pretty dam good shape. I'm currently rebuilding it now, id put pic's up but I don't know how. I know I'm going to have fork seal issues. are they the XJ900 forks or will the 750RJ seals work? I'm only working from a haynes manual and I can see there are plenty of differences. Would I be treading dangerous ground If i were to buy a normal YICS equipped cylinder head and go about preping it in the usual fashion or are the engines quite different? The old head cam bearings are damaged from some idiot reving the hell out of the bike after 4 years in a garage.
