Pull the sensor from the battery and clean it in some rubbing alcohol. Make sure the wire connectors are clean and tight.
    Anyone else?

Make sure that the battery is fully charged.
Low battery might set it off!??
    Not sure just my guess.

Do you even have the sensor in the battery?
The sensor is a long probe with only one wire attached and you would have inserted it inside one of the battery cells.

check the voltage at the battery when it's running maybe the alternator needs
    brushes
or hook the lead from the probe to a +12v lead and it will never come on again

My 750's had the same problem. The wire that connects to the battery sensor is a white wire with a red tracer. Follow that wire goes up and into the headlight. If you have a multi meter you can check your voltage at that connector. It should be aprox 4 to 6 volts on the wire that comes from the battery. The other wire goes into the ignition switch. Here is where the problem is on most bikes. The ignition switch has a set of contacts that disconnect the sensor from the computer when the switch is off. If the contacts in the switch are dirty the computer will not "see" the signal from the battery and trip your warning light. You can see if the switch contacts are dirty by bypassing the ignition switch at that connector. Jumper the two white wires with the red tracers at the connector inside the headlight. If the batt warning light goes out and the red light stops flashing you got it. If not you will need to remove the tank and check the connector under there.

Just a note you can't leave the jumper wire on that connector the battery will drain down over night since it will not stop sending voltage to the computer.

If the ignition switch is the culprit you can remove it and take the two little phillips screws out of the back and clean those contacts with a scotch brite and light machine oil. Lube it up with tune up grease and put it back in and see how every thing works. Good Luck
