Well her it goes. I owned an 85' Xj700 as my first bike back in the early 90's but sold it to start my family but I have now picked up an 82 xj750 maxim for nestalgic reasons but I hate the handle bars. I have seen a few posts on this top however there is never part numbers. Does anyone have all the info for a nice setup? The stock bars are two piece with no riser so I am assuming that one can put a set of risers on and then put a new style of bar? I loved my bars on my 85' so I would like something similar to that if possible? I am clueless so thanks in advance!

One other thing I would like to change is the rectangle head light to a round. Is there an easy conversion?

Part numbers and where purchased would be a great help!

Sorry if this is a repeat!
    MIKE

I have a 550 so I can only be a little help with the headlight as I have a different setup for my handlebars. If your looking to do a swap and change out the headlight you may just want to look up parts on ebay. They are readily available there and alot of the XJ series has interchangeable parts. I would think just about any round headlight from another XJ would work. I have also seen the mounts on there as well. Hope this helps a little.

i changed mine with risers from a Seca, don't know year or number but they needed a spacer under them 'cause the bolt was too long then
    used some dirt bike bars
be aware some bars put the master cyl on a mean lean but mine worked sort of
i'am keeping the square headlight though

I replaced my square headlight ('82 750 Seca) with a round one and like the looks alot more. I ended up using brackets from a Suzuki to mount chrome Kawasaki headlight to the upper forks. See in the photo I also made a headlight visor out of aluminum.

    Stangboss,
I took all the wiring out of the square headlight. Then it removed most of the plastic connections by cutting, soldering and heat shrinking them together to elliminate any problems with pour connections in the future (one thing these are nutorious for)
I have them tucked behind the round headlight I installed (between the fork legs and used a peice of black plastic to make a cover so they can't be seen and gives it a cleaner look. >PD<

The bike looks good! Did you make your risers? I am currently trying to find a set of risers to put som dirt bike bars in place of my adjust-a-bars.

I made those risers for the existing handlebars I had at the time. They ended up to be 6" long and I didn't really like the looks, just the position they were in. So I got a pair of mini-apes that are 10" high and shortened the risers to 4" and this is how it looks now.

Risers: I took a stock pair of risers from another Yamaha and cut the tops off (the part the bars rest in) and welded them to pieces of 1" tubing I had here. Then I welded 3/8 nuts inside the bottom of each one and ran a bolt up from the bottom of the triple tree to mount them. They are good and solid. There is minimal vibration thru the bars, so my hands don't fall to sleep. >PD<

    tedville,
My tailight is just an LED light. You can get them at most truck stops or any auto stores for about $25. I made the housing out of aluminum diamond plate. Just cut it to fit, bent it around the shape of the light and used GOOP to hold it in place. We have those lights in our dump trucks at work, that's where I got the idea. They are nice and bright and don't take much juice. They're a hell of alot cheaper than most LED lights that are actually made for bikes and easy to find. >PD<

I have this on my R65. I got it from E-bay for $20.

The nice part is that it makes brighter lighting, but uses less power, so I can run more stuff.
