I havent seen a foot clutch, but I do remember someone using a spare set of handle bars as a suicide shifter and incorporating the clutch on it.

I saw that as well, but I'm more into the foot clutch.

That would be a tricky one to ride. I remember seeing a foot clutch on some of the older bikes (from way back) and I appears to be quite unsafe to ride one. Why would someone even want to go that route? Why do you think they use hand operated clutches an all bikes now?!

Ya OK. I guess you'll find out how 'cool" it really is. To each his own.

Re: Foot clutch on a maxim?

THINK ABOUT YOUR RIDING "RHYTHM" foot clutch has to also include hand (tank) shift. You can't clutch and shift and brake with your feet. If you "reassign" a function from hand to foot, something else has to be reassigned.

The reason hand-shift on the tank and foot clutches went away is high-RPM motors that require a QUICK shift. Both of those functions, when changed as being discussed, TAKE LONGER. The tank shift lever would have a LONG-A** throw compared to the foot lever, and a foot clutch would be the same.

It worked great on a '26 Indian, but I dunno about your XJ...

Chopper- - how about a right foot clutch, left foot shift, left hand rear brake???
That should meet the need to be different and keep it reasonably simple.
Just don't do this to impress the Harley croud, because they won't be. . .

I think it would be cool. I think you would need to find one and make it work. I imagine you would be the first to put a foot clutch on a maxim. I don't see why it wouldn't work just fine once you learn to ride it

ummm...front brake? You know, the one that's like 70% or more of your stopping power? if you're gonna DO AWAY with anything, do away with the rear brake or LINK the brakes to work from one control.

I think Turkey means to leave the front brake with right hand controls? Rear brake and clutch would essentially change postions with his idea. I may be wrong. It's happened before.

I'm looking to do a jockey shift with a foot clutch, I know it can be done. Just trying to get ideas. Thanks for all the input.

Speakin strictly as an old harley cat who has ridden jockey shifts
for years, im here to tell yall that its not that hard to ride and is actually
quite comfortable once yer used to it, and preferred by many.

That being said im in complete agreement that it has no place on an XJ.

The difference here being the ridiculous power curves of the motor....
Fitz is right chop, ya gotta bang the gears too fast to make a jockey
practical with an xj motor....ever see one on a crotch rocket?
....Bout the same. Fast power, not sluggish like a twin.

Hell, im even throwin a friggin front brake on mine!!! 8O

might be able to rig this to work.

It might not be the best Idea, but the fact is it will work. If you have problems with the long through you can rig it for a shorter throw. Connect the bottom of your jocky shift to the shifter similar to the picture below.

the joint between the shifter and jocky shift would have to be able to slide up and down, longer and shorter

I meant keep the front brake, of course. . .

Mount a mechanical starter button, where you kick some contacts closed.
Hide all switches under the lip of the tank.
Honda made a throttle where the cable stayed inside the handlebar, on an old dirt bike. Just an idea if you want impossibly uncluttered bars.
