Couldn't find a similar thread anywhere, so figured I'll start one and it'll either fly or it'll die... So here's my Baby :D wearing her nice new boots & with the front brakes off (sat in the living room waiting for fresh paint)

The weirdness going on with the backwards second reg plate in the last pic is due to the "proper" one being broken in 2 and siliconed & wired onto another plate. New one is in the post...

BRUCE! Rockin' the recommissioning, nice list.

    Get us some pics, man!

Here we go, in order of amount of work involved, from most difficult to downright cheating (I bought the Norton new many, many moons ago...)

    LOTS of work:

Just as much work; actually had to replace more parts because of the super low mileage hence more hibernating. Plus I customized and modernized it a tad, made it mine, so to speak. Now my DR:

    One of my favorite pics:

Not a resto; just 40 years' worth of maintenance:

I think the red looks nice, I am a bit biased lol but it would suit a full dress bike IMHO...

Fitz, is your front tire on backwards on "toxic"? Very similar pattern to the Dunlop's but the rotation on those has both facing the same way :?

I'm mainly posting so I can tell biggyfaction to keep the midnight maxim's original paint scheme! The black/gold is freakin sweet 8)

But I suppose I will throw a pic or two in for fun as well.

Here is what caught my eye at the side of the road 8O
    [IMG]

And here it is after having it a few months, nothing really done cosmetically other than the side cover
    [IMG]

The maxim is my first bike and I can't really see myself parting with it for quite a while!

Yep, I get that a lot. And no, they are mounted correctly. The tires are Avon AM26 RoadRiders, and they are mounted according to the direction of rotation arrows molded on them. Think about the "work" a tire does in relation to the pavement: the rear tire pushes toward the rear as it moves the bike forward; the front tire effectively pushes forward against the onrushing road under braking. It makes sense; plus I'm pretty sure Avon knows which way they want them mounted.

I'm sure you're right, and wasn't really questioning either your observancy (if the bug splat bothered you, the tire would be too obvious lol) nor Avon's knowledge. Just was interested that other similar patterns have the rotation the other way.

It does make sense as you say for a front to reverse it's pattern due to the opposing forces, apart from when I think about wet weather riding & water dispersion (rather a lot here in UK! :( ) which is the primary function of treaded tires on a road bike, then it actually makes more sense for both to face the same way as the rear (think about the front running into a puddle, the direction of tread would tend to take water from the edge and push it to the middle).

Not saying you're wrong (nor Avon for that matter), just that it seems strange on a road tire. I understand on a dirt tire a directional tread should be oriented to dig away the loose & get it's tread to bite into more solid ground, in the direction in which force is applied, sort of goat-hoof style hence would have to be opposite front & rear. (and indeed I've seen lots of trailies with backward front tires because they look better, until the brakes are applied off road & the tread "surfs" up over the loose dirt it pushed to the centre!) But like I say, on the road all the tread is doing is (hopefully) taking water from under the contact patch & "pumping" it out either side.

Those are some weird looking mufflers....... they don't look right. were they replaced? I would think they should be the same style as the 900rk and the 750rl.

Oh, golly Ken. I wanna come over and play with your toys.

The Dream is a true leg-wetter. Those things are like sewing machines they're so smooth; I loved my 160 Sport! (the exclamation was part of the model name.) "Good shape" isn't close; beautiful work, simply stunning.

The RD makes me spontaneously drool. (Once you get the headlight aimed, adjust the turn signals so they are at the same angle as the headlight.) Damn the EPA anyway. That's a 550 Seca-esque instrument cluster, what's in it? The Seca has a fuel gauge and volt meter up top.

Your Bonnie reminds me of my '72 T100. I grew up on right-hand shift.

Oh, and the XJ's nice too. The problem is, I couldn't pick between the other three.
