    I just turned a Seca into a Maxim...kinda!
Just got my new tank and seat installed. It looks better with the Maxim tank on now with all the chopping I did to it I think.

I put some mini ape handlebars on and shortened the risers 4" so it looks a little better now.
I still have to wet sand the tank and buff it out (still have a few imperfections to clean up)
I wanted to get it back together for the group ride this weekend.

Nice Painter, I liked the seca tank on there, but the Max tank with the new bars has a nice look too

    Thanks Ace!
I figured as long as I made it into a kind of bobber, a tear drop shaped tank would look better. I may just keep the other tank so when I re-do the Maxim tank (again) I'll have one to use so I can still ride. I still need to take off the Maxim tank and wet sand it and get it buffed out.
I screwed up this morning and spilled some gas on it (the clear isn't set yet) and now I need to remove a couple stains before I give it the last few layers of clear. I got into a hurry and shoulda just waited for 7 days like they recommend. Oh well, live and learn I guess. I hate waiting for paint to cure. Next time I'm going to use a hardener so there's alot less waiting involved. >PD<

The Maxim is pretty much the same bike as the Seca. It would be easy to do the mods I've done. I still have to change those gauges to something smaller and maybe chrome or black.
I need to go ride it now and save the rest of the mods for a rainy day. >PD<

    Painter,

I was in St. Cloud over mothers day weekend, and I believe I heard/saw you out for a cruise. It would have been the evening of 5/12/07 about 530-600pm?! I was outside a "MONGO'S" and heard a "XJ engine/exhaust sound" and saw what I thought to be your "Bobber"!!

Love the bike PainterD! I'm thinking of doing something similar to my Maxim. Did you lower the back end at all? Also I'd love to see a picture that shows the license plate bracket you installed.

If I ever did such a mod to my bike, I would hope it turned out as good as your's Painter. I would like to add "Rad" (radical) or "The Bomb" to Rick's list also!

Thank you all for the compliments, your too kind.
I too like the way it turned out. I set out to get rid of all the stuff I didn't care for, like the square headlight and that little driving light. Also I never cared for the looks of the rear plastic with the taillight in it. I hated the seating position, so I needed to move the pegs forward. So I decided to fabricate my own forward controls, using some of the ideas I found here and looking at the controls on my Honda Shadow.
So basically, all I really liked about the bike when it was stock, was the engine and the wheels!! I hated the shape of the tank too, that's why I switched to a Maxim tank. It was a complete transformation to say the least and I'd do it again in a heart beat. Now the seating position is layed back (like my Shadow) and the higher handlebars are just right (and legal) It's quite a bit lighter now that I removed alot of the stock parts, so the power-to-weight ratio is alot better. It seems to perform like a completely different bike, especially with the smaller (and fatter) Maxim rear wheel on it. I figure the gas mileage will be alot less with the higher rpms I run now, but it's a small sacrifice and I'm not concerned about mileage anyways.
I guess when all it was all said and done...I amazed myself!! >PD<
