I am looking for a few parts to finally get my maxim back on the road, I love this bike but I bought it from someone who didn't take care of it at all and I was the sucker for buying the bike and being left with the problems and head aches.

I bought the bike in 2010 at the Motorcycle Show at the International Center in Mississauga/Toronto Ontario. since than this bike has just drained money from my pocket and has sat and collected dust. Although I did properly winterize the bike and topped off all my fuel and oils and lubed up everything as well just so the bike doesn't get any worse.

Last summer I brought it to One Speed Chop Shop in Streetsville Ontario and the mechanic fixed up all my mechanical problems likes my carbs, my engine, etc. Now this year I go to pull it out after winter and the bike won't start :(. I brought it back to One Speed and it looks to be all electrical related now FML.

I ask him what I should look into getting to fix the problem and he said a new or used working TCI box and Ignition coils cause I have no spark running to my spark plugs. Than I thought I might as well see if I can just get it all fixed so I can avoid future problems with the electrical on this bike.

The mechanic told me if I wanna just eliminate any possible problems and future problems I should also look into replacing the whole Wiring Harness and all Electrical Components, and either get a used one in great conditional or see if its possible I can find a new Wiring Harness with all the Electrical Components.

Can somebody please help me out here or if I posted this in the wrong forum let me know so I can post it in the correct forum, all I wanna do is just ride and finally enjoy this lovely motorcycle instead watching the rest of the world ride while I just sit on my bike and not go any where.

    Cheers!

*Please PM me if you can help*

Wow, you had no spark so he told you buy a CDI (which is really a TCI but he didn't know that lol) and coils... I'd say you need to stop buying this mechanic his latest toys with your hard earned :?

OK it MAY be both that are bad but I 100% doubt it. What you'd be best served by doing is perhaps getting yourself a cheap multimeter & doing some basic tests which we can talk you through. Just start a thread in XJ chat if you feel like doing it, more people will see it there :)

At the very least I'd suggest changing your mechanic as he doesn't sound to be a real mechanic, more a "change parts and hope" fitter...

For now, if you're still with me & have no multimeter you can check for spark yourself by pulling one spark plug at a time, reconnecting the wire, grounding the plug against the head (hold it there with a wooden handle screwdriver or similar) and turning the engine on the starter. You will probably see a tiny barely blue spark if there is one as these bikes aren't renowned for having powerful ignitions! (best done in low light to give better chance of seeing spark)

Also, while you have the plugs out, replace them with new as they're cheap & can go bad easily (make sure you get the correct plugs for the bike, not just the same as what comes out).

Best of luck, hope to see you in the other forums working through this baby :)

@750E-II_29Rbloke We used a multimeter and as well check all the wires for corrosion and sprayed it down with the solution to get rid of corrosion. we also changed the battery and spark plugs and still no luck. He has also been cutting me a pretty big deal on his hourly rate. When he called me today he said it may be the CDI box cause all the wires are good just no spark coming to the spark plugs, but he said if not that than it could be plenty of other problems, that why I just got him to name everything he thinks it could be so that way we can just change all that so I won't have to see him for a while lol. but I will post this in XJ chat. Thank you though I will also try what you have mentioned :).

@RickCoMatic, thanks I will try that as well.
