Red/yellow & blue/black show as connected with button NOT pressed, the other pair (blue/white & black) connected with the button pressed.

I believe the ones that are connected with the button not pressed, that disconnect when you press it could be to do with knocking the headlamp off if it's lit to provide more power for starting, not sure though...

As I say, I'm not sure of the function of the Red/yellow & blue/black pair but I think they could be possibly left connected together. (but not to the 2 pin switch)

If you do that & wire the blue/white & black pair to the button you have & see what you get. If it doesn't work then you'd have to get a 4 terminal button (with one pair terminals N/C and the other pair N/O).

Like I say, as far as I can tell the pair that separate when the button is pressed look to just be killing the lights on starter being pressed but can't be 100%

All the start button should do is engage the solenoid, so you're probably fine at that point.

Now when the solenoid makes that connection ( click ) the high amp juice can go through the solenoid over to the starter.

I suspect maybe battery is low, disconnected, etc.

OK i know it had a weak charge due to sitting, ill throw it back on a charge and re check the volts.

You may have a dodgy solenoid also, if a full charge doesn't fix it & it's definitely the solenoid that's clicking (you should be able to feel a slight tap if you put your finger on the solenoid & press the button. You could also unplug it's small wires & test that you get 12v across them when you press the button)

If you suspect the solenoid is bad you can test it with a multimeter set to Ohms, put the probes between both big nut terminals & when you press the button it should go to nearly 0 resistance. if that checks out OK you can see if you have power to it & the starter (should have 12v on solenoid terminals and on the starter terminal with button pressed)
