82 maxim in the shop for carb work. Prior to going in the wind took it down. Wouldn't start after that. Shop owner says he has carb work done but still not running right. Its been in the shop 3 months. Plus 700 hundred dollar deposit. Will not mention shop name. Haynes manual says brushes could have oil in them. Any suggestions would be appreciated.I am giving the guy two more weeks then getting the bike back and will do it myself with the help of this forum. This xj site is great. Thank you all

Think I would tell that shop to take a flying leap and go get the bike today. 3 months is way too long. A place that new what they were doing would have had it back to you in a few days. Bad Mechanics/shops infurate me to no end. As I am a mechanic. I have fixed a lot of other shops mess ups. Fix it yourself and save the money. Report them to the BBB.

I will be telling them to give me my bike back. As soon as i have my truck out of the shop and the equipment necessary to get the bike on the truck. Then i will report them to the BBB that is a good idea. No more shops.

My other bike (V45 Magna) will be in the shop tomorrow.
I really don't want to but I have no choice.

sounds like we need some honest shops to spring up. Like you I dont mind paying for quality work, but you have to draw the line some where. 3 months is way too long. I got a xj700 3 or 4 week ago and have been working on it at my leasure and I drove it home today. I did a lot of work to it. The on going write up is under another post. got an xj700. Not all shops are bad, but it is hard to find the good ones. They dont necessarily have to work on it right now, but sometime within a week would be nice. Best bet is to ask around.
