Just purchased at 33K (approximate). Top end is quiet, only weeping oil at a head-gasket "donut" and the tach drive seal...seems strong. Will report back once brought fully back to life.

Mine came with 32K on the clock, unsure if this is genuine on a 30 year old motor, racked up a few thousand more and running ok so no complaints.

Pretty sure that some on the site have some real high mileage models though!

One of the guys as XS11.com was mentioning awhile ago his XS11 (essentially the same engine as the XJ1100) had 120K miles and he was thinking of doing a ring job. If you care for any quality bike and don't muff if by being stupid & neglecting known maintenance areas, you can get high mileage and a reliable bike.

Some things are just needed improvements over the original like the fuse box needing to be replaced by a flat slotted fuse holder.

I have 33k now, from 26k when I bought it.

As much as there are parts that simply wear from use, or require constant replacement - like filters - heavy use is much better for others. A frequently run engine stays lubricated.

My less-than-knowledgeable example: It's like air conditioning on cars, lack of use - due to owner's fear of wearing it out - is why they fail. They have lubricants in the refrigerant that need to circulate on a regular basis.

I remember talking to a guy in CO in the 90s that had a 2 yr old ford explorer - the 4WD failed the first snow he tried to use it in. Because he hadn't engaged it in 2 effing years.

I hope being a avid rider will keep my bike running well, and make all the improvements I've made to get it caught up from '82 to '13 stay valid
