Hey guys! Just wanted to get some thoughts on my xj 750. i bought it bone stock and did all the work myself in a little plastic shed in my back yard. im not done yet, but tips and ideas would be awesome. I couldn't of done any of this without this website and chacal! heres a list of some of the things ive done

    tcbrochoppers lane splitters bars
    true hard tail
    turnsignals and turn signal fix
    pod filters
    bigger jets
    open headers
    springer seat
    highway bars
    fender delete
    bar end mirrors
    headlight
    white walls in the mail
and a bunch of little stuff

(Front forks are photoshoped black.. that's next)

I couldnt see some real important things on your list....

    Tires
    Valve clearances
    Brake lines
    Rear shoes

Does the horn get full of water and grime when you get stuck in the rain?

The brake hoses may *look* fine & also work fine in normal use, but if they're past their 4 years age limit they may very well look like
the ones in my signature links and they can burst when you really haul them on (generally when you really NEED them to work for you!)

Same for the rear brake, it looks and works fine until the shoes delaminate :(

The delamination can happen at any time & completely lock up your back wheel, like a 2 stroke seizure except pulling the clutch won't help.

Please have a read of the links in my signature line, the parts are very cheap & easy to fit, we want you & the bike to be able to stay
around for many years to come :)

Is this no-muffler configuration legal in PA? No way you could run your bike like this around here, and according to me, it is a very good thing. I would hate to have a neighbor with an exhaust system like yours.

This said, it looks pretty good, but the aesthetics would be improved if you'd hide the battery with a cover of your own.

Truthfully, i have no idea about the muffler law. Whats nice, I can keep it quite, but at the same time, i can rip on it and be loud. I believe that loud bikes save lives. I really dont have any neighbors, so that's not a problem.

Im actually building side panels right now! haha

Elk glad you liked the fairing I think it really makes the Seca look sleek and it gives a small spot to hide from some wind. I will start up posting parts again soon.

Garetts the original fender has a heavy piece of metal under it that acts as a fork brace it simply ties the top of the lower fork tubes together. As you can clearly see in this pic I found on google Isn't the internet great for information[IMG]

Yes rack..... of carbs lol

In response to the carb hats, I don't think it makes a difference which way they are fitted (not sure why they even have a chamfered edge TBH, clearance?)

Before i forget, i sent you a pm as well -

    Anyways -

    Great picture.

    Love the license plate mount.

I'm not usually a fan of how apes look but yours blend with the bike nicely and somehow you pull em off, haha.

Love the look of the new rear tire, that white wall is the cherry on top, with the front its going to look baller.

Deff. look into a fork brace, its a structurally dependent part no doubt.

As for brake lines, heres an eyeopener for ya:

    http://xjbikes.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=4 ... art=0.html

Lastly, its not a matter of "if" you're going to get caught in the rain, but rather "when" you'll get caught in the rain ;)

Only things i would say ascetically to change, would be mounting the horn in a way that looks cleaner, or maybe pick up a simple classic looking horn and bolt it next to the turn signal tab or something

    See:

Otherwise, figure out how you can tuck that one back under the tank like it was originally

If you want i could find and post a few pics of my old horns and now with the new ones i picked up from harbor freight for like 10 bucks - loud and cheap! - mounted under the tank.

Secondly, i would just build some sort of box/tube/compartment/etc. for all the wires and relays and electronics that are all just kinda chillin' out in the open now. Many people use large diameter pvc tubing with a cap on each end. Painted black, they turn out looking pretty good! Something covering the battery would also make it look better in my eyes. Or at least paint the batt. black (making sure to eave yourself a 'window' to be able to check the fluid level)

    Tear it up!!

    Chris

Thanks for all the input guys. being 21 years old and this my first ever bike, its nice to get some approvals from fellow xj bikers haha

At mtnbikecrazy55, I just went for a ride and the horn broke off and got pretty messed up(cheap plastic)... I think that was sign! haha will be getting a better, More hidden horn.

As for the bars, i use to have drags on it. Im 6'2" 200 pounds... i also have very abnormal long arms. (you should see the guys face when i get fitted for a suit) Drag bars were WAY TOO Cramped for me. So i needed something higher. I didnt like the look of apes and I hated the stock split handles. So i looked at tcbrochoppers and found their lane splitters. I gave them a try. I love them! not too high and they bend inwards. kinda like Zbars.

Here's a pic of the way i fit on it. (This was halfway through the build)

Thats the way to go about it Garrets24 its not one size fits all you have to make the bike fit you, especially if you have abnormally looooooong arms

Hell yeah man, those bars fit you like a glove!

haha that was a sign indeed about the horn!

    Heres what i did - mounted these: http://www.harborfreight.com/automotive ... 99911.html

I took them apart and drilled the upper/metal part of the horn so that i could use the stock bracket to attach them. Then i painted the top metal piece black as well because it was just naked meh metal.

They prety much attached right like they did on the old bracket, i used existing hole and then drilled just one more where it was needed/where the hole was on the bracket and then used a rivet

WAY louder than the tired out stock horns, and at the same time stay pretty stealth.

Just shoot me a message if you need further explaination!

    Once again, love the whitewalls!

Wow... last post I did was 2013. Sorry I fell off the planet guys. Went to school, became a railroad conductor, met a girl, got married, and bought a house. Havnt ride the bike since 2013. But! I started working in the bobber that was still in my father's house. And I'm almost done. Can you see the differences? New tank, new rear frame, new seat, and other things. Here it is as I type. (I painted it) 20170613_201915-01.jpeg
