I went to my local Advance store this evening for oil and filter and I see that they have a sale going right now. Four quarts of Valvoline motorcycle oil and Fram filter for $19.99! SWEET!!! Exactly what I came for. So I grab the oil and look on the shelf for the filter I need (CH6003) but don't see it. I go ask the guy behind the counter if they have any in stock. He looks it up on the computer and tells me they don't have it, nor does any other store nearby. In fact he tells me that the warehouses don't have any either and apparently no longer stock it. Why the hell would Advance stop carrying this filter? It's not like our bikes are rare! Guess I'll just have to start shopping elsewhere!!

They're not selling the filter anymore because the company has determined that they have better use for the space and money. That's the way the world works.

WIX makes an equivalent that also included the o-rings.

Or, you could just order a half dozen from Chacal.......

Advance is for cars and truck parts anyways. Only reason I go to them is for brake clean and carb and choke. Go to your local motorcycle shop for motorcycle oil and filters.

And pay inflated prices for similar oil and filter? No thanks! Just because it's sold at a motorcycle shop doesn't make it a better product...so why would I pay more for it? There are plenty of other places I can get it, Advance is just the most convenient.

I figured other members here might like to know that they no longer carry our oil filter for future reference.

Same reason why people are willing to pay slightly more for certain parts from Chacal, because if there's a good independent shop that takes the time & effort to stock low-volume low-margin stuff that we need just for the love of keeping old bikes on the road, and offers up vast amounts of "obsolete" knowledge and advice that can make repairs run smoother then sometimes we're willing to spend a little more in the short term to keep these places ticking over so that they're there the next time we need some obscure washer or gasket, or are struggling to get our head round how to do something... ;)

Not saying to buy everything locally when there's better deals out there, and actually, oil is a prime example of when to search out the best deal. But if we all shopped round & only bought companies loss-leading sale items where would the company be?

Exactly 750E folks dont seem to understand when someone stores old parts for years and years that time has to be paid for it cost money to store those parts and that is reflected in the price

They sure do; and NAPA sells the WIX filters under their "Power Sport" branding too.

I have no problem supporting small local businesses for some things I need and I definitely get most of my parts from Len. We all know his service and knowledge can't be beat!! But when it comes to things like oil and filter I'd rather not pay extra like shipping or the local bike shop's jacked up prices. Nor do I want to wait for it to get here. I'm sure none of you go to your local car dealership to get oil and filter for your car. Why is it any different for a bike?

The only reason for my annoyance is just because I've been getting my oil and filter from Advance for three years now. And I went there last night specifically for oil and a filter. Had I known they stopped carrying it I would've went elsewhere. Looks like the local Napa will be getting a new customer

I get my plugs and oil filters at fleet farm now, found them to be cheaper than they ever were at advance anyway.

I do like advance though, they have great prices.

Not sure about Oreilly's as there isn't one around here. As for Autozone, they used to carry the fram filter but I don't really like the quality of the service I've received from them in the past. Seems like their hiring standards aren't very high IMO.

I only go to Napa myself. I don't have a lot of experience and the folks at my local one are always welcoming and full of advice.
