I've been disassembling the carbs. Dude, way easier than thought.

Anyway on the inside the rubber boot leading from carb #1 to the engine there is a white powdery substance caked on the boot. Looks like what forms on a corroded battery. It is also on the outside of the carb body where it inserts in the boot. No evidence of it inside the carb anywhere, thank god, nor anywhere else on the carb rack or engine.

Any idea as to what that is?

Any chance that this is from aluminium corrosion in a dried out carb, could be the way bike was parked. No 1 carb in an exposed position?

My land rover is built with ali panels and road salt and deterioration forms white dusty powder around fixings.

Along the bottom of the boot? Possible that the carb was overflowing & this is the residue of whatever was spewing out?

#1 is on the "downhill" side when the bike is on the sidestand. It could have come from anywhere, it's a YICS motor, is it not?

    Proceed.

The disassembling is the easy part. Now comes the cleaning and inspecting and careful reassembly and adjusting. Don't submerge them unless you're breaking the rack and replacing the throttle shaft seals.

    Check your valves yet?

It's not corrosion. Having put several parts through the carb dip several times now, I've noticed the same white residue appear on extremely dirt spots if the chemical sits awhile.

Probably the output of carb 1 was still what with chemical when it was reinstalled.
