So I got my goods in today, which includes a new gasket and o-ring for my cam chain tensioner as it was leaking.

On my bike, an '82 xj1100, the cam chain tensioner is a manual adjustment model, with the locking screw on the side of the body.

What I am unsure of, after searching quite a bit, and looking through the service manual which says "then replace the tensioner".... is how far to put the main screw back in when re-installing it.

I am just unsure how far to screw in, or when to stop. I would just rather check to see if I am supposed to feel something, rather then not have enough tension and have it skip, because well, that's very bad haha.

    Thanks,
    - Sam

Sorry never mind. I was just being dumb.

Once you put the cam chain tensioner body on, then tighten the locking screw on the side, the spring provides the proper tension to the cam chain.

Thanks for the help! Sometimes just talking through it helps haha.

Well.. Instead of age, I will use my inexperience as my excuse
But I am gaining experience quickly!

I found that my gasket or o-ring might not have been the cause of my oil leak from the tensioner, on xj1100's apparently there is a "cap" on the end of the tensioner, and my cap is not in good shape... I just can't tell if it's actually something that would cause a leak though, or if it's just there for fun.

I think you can abandon the Manual Tensioner if you can find a good used Automatic Tensioner off a Venture.

I seem to remember someone doing so, on here, a while back.
