I've had an 86 xj maxim for a year and after the winter could not start the bike. With a little starting fluid into air intake bike will run but after the fluid is burned up nothing. Gas free flows out of the fuel filter and I have drained and replaced the gas in the tank. I've come to the conclusion that I have to clean my carbs. If anyone has a different diagnosis please help.

Or is anyone interested in getting together to do a carb cleaning together or run a clinic. I live in Worcester Ma but would travel a pretty decent distance 2+ hrs to do a cleaning with someone that is experienced. Thanks, Ben

If you get it organized and you've got the space ... I'll be very happy to come to Worcester to assist with your Carb Clinic.

I can bring my Old School set-up and New School ColorTune Plug ... maybe we'll get a couple of bikes running real good.

Rick I propose the following dates as options: Saturday MAy 12th, Saturday May 19th or Sunday May 20th. I have a garage that can hold four or 5 bikes. Right now I have my bike a 86 Maxim and a friend who has a 83 Maxim that will attend and I'd love to have a few others show also. Let me know which date works best for you. Ben

    You got it!

Probably the 19th would be best ... if we need part of Sunday to wrap-up ... it won't be Mother's Day ... and we won't catch grief.

I'll bring my ColorTune Plug Kit!

Alright the 19th of May it is. please RSVP to this forum thread if you plan on attending. I have room for 3 more bikes in my garage, and more room if people actually remove the carbs from the bike before they come. 33B Chilmark Street Worcester, MA Rick you can also pick the time 8am or after is fine with me. Just finished cleaning up from the clinic. Wanted to say thanks so much to rick for showing up and dispensing the most knowledge on xj's I have ever seen or heard or witnessed. We got the bike running and tuned.

Always fun for me to see the expression on a guys face when his first bike gets the once-over and fires-up. The energy of being in Ben's garage and bringing the bike a little closer to TheEdge ... kept us working way past the time when we should folded the tent for the day.

Some interesting high-lights for the "Do-it-Myself" people in the house.

A Pilot Mixture Screw can be so freakin' stuck that you'll break an Easy-Out trying to get it out ... like I did!

When AirBox Boots lose their suppleness ... there is no more miserable situation you can deal with. Order the new Boots.

Doing the "RickCoMatic Stuff" ... WORKS GREAT if you don't have a YICS Tool.

We didn't have clothes line ... so we cut strips of T-Shirt and knotted them together.
We didn't have MARVEL Mystery Oil ... so, ... we Improvised!

We made-up a YICS deal the bike couldn't refuse!

Filippo Berio Olive Oil ... wassa madder widdat? Nodding? Shezza maig uh
nize Why-Hi-Seez-esse ... anna dere wazza no pra-blame!

    Buona notte'
