    Will Royal Purple 70w140 work in an 81 XJ650 Maxim final drive or should I go with the 80w90. I ask because the 70w140 is what I use in my XS1100.

    It'll work just fine, but that's awfully expensive and heavy gear oil for motorcycles. I've been running basic cheap 80w90 for more than 20 years, have only changed it twice, and it's still perfect.

    Thats what is recommended over on the XS11 forums. I filled my XS when I got it last spring and have enough left for the 650 so figured I would use that if it wasn't going to be a problem.
