The Seca is the sport model version of the Yamaha bikes. It was available in the 400, 550, 650 750 and later the 900cc engine sizes. There was also a 500cc engine available in Europe but I don't know in which models. The Maxim is the cruiser version. It was available up to an 1100cc engine. Although the 1100 was not really an XJ engine but a renamed XS engine. The Maxim was available in the US from 1980 until 1983. The Seca from 1981 until 1983. I think the 1984 versions were only available in the US if bought in Canada. Not sure about that. For 85 & 86 there was a 700cc Maxim and Maxim-X for the US. The 900cc version went on to be named the Diversion and was sold in Europe until the middle 90's.

the seca leans you forward a bit more and I also believe the gas tank is different. my maxim has flowing lines> the tank on the seca has a sporty look chesty on the top kinda stair steps down to a lean waist near the seat. best I can explain it. look at my avatar..then click on rickomatics gallery and see his...hope this helps, starting to sound screwy to me
