threw chain

    threw the chain on 550 maxim...it hit the starter got hung up between case and sprocket cracked the mounting ears....now i have a clunk cluck loud knock in trans somewhere it seems any ideas where should i go from here..thanks

    Start by removing the starter; it's constantly engaged. If it's sitting crooked, that could be the whole issue.

    Did it break the starter mounting ears off the transmission housing? You may end up looking for a new motor so diagnosing this one might not be worth it. If you bent the transmission output shaft, it definitely isn't.

    output shaft? that sounds bad...i have another motor to swap if you guys think thats the trick....stater mounts did break off the case

    If your starter mounts broke, then it isn't worth fixing. Time for a motor swap. Keep your bad motor for the parts. Since you threw the chain, it might be time for a new chain and sprockets. Make sure you regularly check your chain and sprockets so that it doesn't happen again.

    Or been adjusted to tight. Or just a weak link. Lots of possibilites. I still want that chain though :)
