    Hi!

I'm doing the first oil change since picking up my XJ650J. I took the filter cover, drain plug, and middle gear bolt off and let the oil drain for a few hours. When I went to pour the old oil out I was surprised to see a metal flat washer in the drain pan. I know it wasn't in there when I started and judging by the size of it, it could only go around the filter bolt. I checked my service manual but couldn't find a diagram - I had thought it was just the cover, spring, and filter, respectively in there.

Am I missing something or did the previous owner inadvertently added this washer for some reason.

    Thanks for the help!

I just got a replacement at a local hardware store for $.30. No need for a $3 washer.
