I see your motor is apart - - I hope you know about new chain guides, shifter springs, rear brake shoes, brake lines, and a new rabbit's foot ??

    Re: image test

Thanks for your post. Just the top end dismantled for sand blasting (done last night at work on nightshift).
I had a rabbit's foot on the key ring of my Yamaha FS1E in 1974 ha ha. As for the brake shoes, I have new ones in the box ready to go on in due course and Goodridge brake lines will be ordered shortly. I am open to advice on the cam chain guides.
I'm slightly surprised at the response to my test image post on the Test Zone Forum as I thought this was just for testing purposes. I am hoping to begin a Café Racer project topic with photos in the XJ modifications forum once I get the hang of posting images etc. There has been a couple of excellent ones already, that's why I like this site so much. I think I've cracked it now though. The problem was my cell phone camera is creating images far too large for this site too accept so I've got an app to reduce the pixels to conform with requirements.
Sorry for delay in response but I finished work this morning at 3am GMT.

    Cheers

    Rob

As the thread has now changed to RobbieRobot Repair & Tuning can someone please tell me what I need to know about chain guides as alluded to by TimetoRide.

Thanks for the clarification. I did some investigation but couldn't see anything about inherent problems with the cam chain guides so I was beginning to think it must be the primary chain guide you were hinting at. I don't have any exact history of mileage but there is virtually zero wear anywhere inside the engine from what I've seen. As the consequences of failure of this component are unlikely to cause catastrophic damage in the first instance (as Bourne out by previous posts) I think I'll risk it, also considering the fact that there is no other reason to split the cases at this point in time.
Are you going to keep me in suspenders about the 'new rabbit's foot'?

Just being "cheeky" , but I did lose mine a couple years ago. (they don't grow on trees)

Now - how about those brake line and tire date codes??
