Hello there. Names Thomas, and i just picked up my first motorycle project. Its a 1982 Seca 650. History on the bike is it was my uncles DD untill he became ill. He rode the thing from Santa Clara to San Francisco everyday for more than 15 years and put on a hefty 72,000 miles. In 1999 the bike was parked on the side of his house and never moved one inch untill about 2 weeks ago, when i picked it up. From what i can tell, it has a MAC exhaust and a progressive suspension set up. it has some "brand new" looking metzlers on it that i wish i could use, and some AMA stickers on it as well. i have a goal of 2 months to get this thing road worthy, ready for the 4th of july rally here in hollister CA.

Ive read a bit on here already and have a good idea where to start. I was able to get the bike started with a plastic bottle gas tank and fresh fluids and battery. I was told it needs a valve adjustment as well. Bike would only run with choke on at least 50% but did not smoke or sound bad at all. I now have the carbs apart and going through cleaning and dipping them. I did find some rust holes in the tank after a rust removing rinse.. I will be patching these holes myself and having a shop paint for me. I live near Laguna Seca, which i have read is what the bike is named after. I go to LS often and i think a LS themed bike(track car/road racer) would be pretty slick. My main Hobby is wrenching on my Jeeps, so i have most tools needed for the job.

    A little about me:
Im 23. Im a GearHead. If it has a motor, i work on it. I come from a long line of gear heads, with my father and uncles being into cycles pretty heavily "back in the day". My dads had a couple old ducatis, a bsa, a norton, plenty of triumphs, yamis, hondas..etc. Ive been more of a dirtbike guy, but am now venturing to street. I will uploading MANY pictures soon. I look forward to plenty of tech!

dipping and rebuilding final carb. another project had sidelined this one for a bit, but back on it now. I picked up a Lincoln tig, which I plan on using to patch the bottom corners of the tank.

some ideas I have been throwing around:

*white base color.(tank/fenders/etc) paint original scallops back on, but in black and gold.
    *lower forks or r6 forks
    *mild removal of unneeded parts.
*routing exhaust from the collector to underneath the seat.
    *paint rims all black
    *paint calipers gold
    * slotted/drilled rotors
*new handle bars(not sure on style yet)
*replace headlight with same size hid light.

    Welcome.

Those look suspiciously like the original brake lines. Those were supposed to be replaced in around 1986-87. I'd look into that before anything else. Stopping is far more important than going.

It is what happens to adhesive-backed brake pads after several years (whether in use or not). The lining comes unglued from the shoe, and ends up locking the rear brake, after which many bad words are said (and underwear is changed).

Thanks. I was told the timing chain had been replaced during a full service around 60000-65000 miles. I did not get full details on what was replaced, but will be taking everything apart for inspection just in case. My Uncle kept up on maintenance well.

That's only if you're lucky enough to not crash and burn because they locked up.

And here is my rust issue. should have this repaired in the next couple of days. bottom of both sides look like this. I did open the holes up a bit to get the rust that was loose out. and the carbs are ready to go back in.
