I don't know if this is your problem, but I had the wire in the kill switch short out (blue-white on the back on the start button) and would trigger the oil light randomly.

You can always trust the sight-glass.

If the glass is filled to just the last bubble at the top, then you can accurately tell if you are using any oil or if the carbs dropped some gasoline in there overnite. More accurate than keeping the level in the middle - you can tell a 3 OZ difference using the "Bubble Trick".

Leaving a slight "bubble" at the very top of the oil sight glass (representing a slight overfill) so you can easily monitor the oil level for a sudden increase (caused by a float issue.)

You want to run a slight (200CC or so) overfill to keep the light from coming on during hard acceleration.

Check the oil level with the bike on the centerstand, and the motor OFF for at least 5 ~ 10 minutes so it has a chance to drain back into the sump.

Slowly drip Oil into the Filler Hole while watching the Sight Window.
Let the Oil Level climb until there is just a Small Bubble left to see.

I get the oil light to flick on during really hard acceleration, especially if I've wound her up in both first and second. I'm starting to make a parts list including some oil seals for the crankshaft and the shift shaft.
