1980 XJ650 has a hole rusted in the bottom of one muffler. I understand that this is a fairly common problem. Anyone know of a fairly inexpensive fix that looks good without spending a bundle?

Metal tape, or rivet a small patch over the hole, or weld it shut if small enough...... I even used muffler bandage one time.......

Just making sure you aren't talking about the moisture weep holes that are suppose to be there? They are on both mufflers.

A friend and I welded mine. He had to reinforce a lot of the surrounding area, though, because so much of the metal in the area was so thin that he kept going through.

Sucker is good for another 40 years now though!

Thinking about making a stainless steel patch. Hole is about 1" in diameter on bottom of muffler. Drill hole in center of 2" dia. stainless patch and use stainless bolt with threaded stainless flange that will fit inside muffler to hold in patch place. Seal around patch with hi temp adhesive. Probably over kill but should last. Thought about welding but metal is thin and I'd probably end up making more holes than just the one.

Anyone have any suggestions on aftermarket mufflers? I have a 4 into 1 system and could use a new muffler....
