Not to be found anywhere? I have searched on this site and other paint sites and the oldest I can find is 1982 or 1985.

If we don't have a code, what is the Yamaha name? New Black?

It might be easier to go to a body shop supply center or even a body shop itself and ask them if they can look it up.They should have a book full of paint chips dating back you can look at and find the black from the same year as yer bike(or they can match it up with a black with the paint chips).I work in a shop and i looked in the book for my 82 red.there wasnt any "variations" of the same red so i believe they used it for a number of years same red.I have called Yamaha and the serial # doesnt have the paint code like a regular car does so it took a bit of comparing.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the post. THe shop is a side project for a mechanic and his auto body brother, so he does not have the big books of the large shops, hence his price is half... :(

He has exact match paint already made up, so he will be your best source for the code
