Has anyone been using Ethanol treatments to reduce effects on gas and orings.
I am looking for a good treatment. My generator mowers weed eaters pressure washer and my bikes get used very little last winter orings on fuel transfer tubes petcock seal went on my honda, The petcock seal went on my yamaha the petcock on my aux fuel tank started to leak. My tractor fuel pump went i rebuilt it afew weeks later its doing the same thing again it has a plastic tank. I am afraid since it eats plastic tanks that pieces are getting in the fuel system and or the fuel hose is deteriorating. from sitting . The fuel hose on it is over 5 feet long. I want to drain all of them and start with fresh gas and some kind of additive i know bg makes it crc and others looking for a good one. Its to expensive to be replacing all these parts because they sit a lot.

Atlanta is smog country we even have summer and winter blends of gas for pollution Heck we even have smog alerts in the summer for bad breathing. Every place has the max 10% ethanol to give you an idea last year i bought a car 250 miles away i got 2 mpg better then i do using the gas in the atl area used shell premium gas both places with strictly highway driving.

Wow. Here in South Dakota we have 3 options at each pump. Regular 87 with no ethanol and 89 and 91 octane with 10%. Thats all year. No difference in the seasons.

Not sure exactly where Lawrenceville is but you should have an E-free station near you - check out the map here.

I totally understand as I can't always get E-free and I don't trust every station that claims that anyway so I always put either Lucas Ethanol stabilizer or STP gas treatment in everything. It doesn't require a whole lot. I also try to remember to fire up everything at least once or twice a month. Yes believe it or not I fire up the weedeater and such and let them run for about 3-4 minutes even in the winter. Do the same with all my AC units also so their seals don't get dry and leak. Otherwise I winterize my outboard by fogging and totally draining all the fuel.

Somebody told me last week that the higher grades of gasoline have less ethanol in them. Is that true?

Sea foam one ounce per gallon. I use it on all my power equipment and bikes if straight gasoline is not available. Have been using it for over three years with no problems. Most auto parts stores have it on shelf here

MercuryMan All those blue dots on the map go all the way around atl The closest one to me is 25 miles. Worth the drive to me i will get a few more gas cans get about 20 gal at a clip.
Wirehairs I was reading something that said the same also i will do more research on it. My car requires premium and i have had no problems with it. I have put $40.00 in it in the last year will be filling it up in a week or so to drive 2k miles on vacation.
I have read some stuff on the stabil for ethanol seems pretty good.
I am gonna drain everything with gas . My generator has regular stabil in it but it will get drained to. From what i hear it starts to seperate after about 90 days and your left with an alcohol film on top that collects water and causes rust. Scares me with the car but it gets started and ran a few times a month

Higher grades have less iso-octane. I don't think the grade has anything to do with ethanol, but I could be wrong.

Good video, not comprehensive but a good primer, from Max Storey.

The gas in the pumps changes seasonally; they may not TELL you about it, but it does. Anywhere with real winters and real summers gets seasonally-adjusted gas.

Some stations carry their highest grade w/o any ethanol, Shell has been known to do this. BUT many including some Shell stations carry ethanol in every grade and if it's there it won't be reduced in the higher grade. It's either there at 5, 10, or 15% depending on where you live, or it's not there at all.

And bigfitz is correct they change the formulations depending on the expected weather/season. In summer the gas will be more expensive because refiners are required by the Gov to formulate it with additives that burn cleaner and reduce smog. So ironically the gas we use during the cold months is even more prone to ethanol issues of varnishing and turning to gobs of crap!!

This topic borders on flame wars at times over at the concours forum.

    Some guys swear by Startron.

Some guys swear by TCW-3, a 2-cycle oil that they add to the gas at 1-2 oz per 5 gallons.

Some guys swear by adding Marvels Mystery Oil to their gas (dosage unknown).

I haven't tried any of them yet although I just picked up some Startron today.

Around here, ethanol-free is available in premium at a few stations.

Here is a link to locations of gas stations selling ethanol free gas. I can't vouch for it's accuracy.
