On my XJ1100 the cam caps slide onto studs, and are held down with a washer and a nut that I believe was 11/32" ? I just did that this weekend, but don't remember the size for sure. I can look in a few hours when I get home if need be.

Now you've made me nervous. I'm going to have to run by the house as soon as I get off work and check on it. What size would you expect it to be? bigger? or smaller?

I bought this bike used from someone who is less than tech savvy. Based on what he told me about the bike before I bought it, I thought I was getting a good deal and could have it running like a top with minimal work, but soon discovered he wasn't entirely forthcoming (still trying to decide if it was a case of deception or ignorance). Given the PO's level of mechanical expertise, I don't THINK he'd have dug into the engine and changed anything, but I'd definitely rather be safe than sorry.

11/32 = 9MM (or close enough if we're talking about the size of the nut not the threads.)

Which IS NOT the answer to OP's question, BTW.

geissingerj - What i meant was I'd be suspicious of any bolt/nut that's not metric on the bike.....
