    I have a xj1100 that I just got done cleaning the carbs and installed richer jetsdue to custom exhaust the problem I have is it won't rev above 7000 rpms. Its like it runs out of fuel when it gets toward 6-7 grand.It did not do this before but it was pretty lean before the carb cleaning. Runs great otherwise. Any help is appreciated. Thanx.

    Just a guess, but you may have gotten jets in the wrong places, or possibly your float levels aren't set properly and you're not getting enough fuel?

    edit: the opposite could also be true I suppose, and it's running too rich because the jets aren't the right size.

    Not sure how jets get put in the wrong places but that is not the case. You might be right about float level cause it seems like it runs out of fuel only when your wide open but, i never touched the tabs on the floats when i had them apart and it never did this before. Maybe because i installed richer jets i need to set the floats higher???

    I have a few questions before any suggestions are made.
    What type of air filter are you using-stock or POD?
    What size main jets did you install and is the pilot jet stock size?
    To start you need to check;
    Carb slide diaphrams for holes and free movement
    float levels
    Valve adjustments

    Main jets from 112.5 to 117. Pilot jets from 47.5 to 50's. Stock airbox and stock filter. Diaphrams and slides are also good. Like i said it ran perfectly fine before the carb cleaning and jet replacement other than being too lean. I have the carbs back off and am adjusting the float level higher so there is more fuel. Thinking maybe richer jets need more fuel in floats.

    Stock float height will be fine, wet set them to around 3 to 5 mm below the carb body. You may be too large on the main jet with stock air box. I have a K&N filter in mine with a 4 to 1 header and I only needed one size larger(115).

    Mlew, what size pilots are you running? I set the float height higher and just took it for a beat and its better than it was but still not quite right. It'll go to 8 grand or so now but once you hit about 6 grand you can feel it loose power like its starving for either fuel or air. If your right about it being too rich i would think a guy could get some more air to it right?

    I had a piece of foam over the airbox intake by the battery that i removed. Also had a tight bend in one of the fuel lines, not kinked but just a tight bend that restricted fuel flow. A combination of the 2 and now it RIPS!! So a couple stupid things that i didnt notice and setting the float height did the trick. Thanx again for the input.
