I decided to sell my bike. Went and test rode a bunch of different bikes and decided I still like my bike better.

So now I have all this freed up money (thats how this works right?) and want to change up my bars. I have always hated the stock bars.

I dont like to lean too far fwd, so I was thinking Daytona bars. NOTE: I am with arm length to match.

Can someone please list and link me to everything else I will need?

I am not trying to spend a fortune and do not car about going back to stock. I just want clean functioning parts.

Bars - I can find easy enough.
    New MC/Clutch
    New Switches
    Grips (possible heated upgrade?)
    Mirrors.

    Thanks

Handlebar swaps are easy, as long as you compensate for changes in brake line and control cable length requirements.

Why are you changing/replacing the switch pods and brake master cylinder?

Mirror choices will depend on what bars you end up with.

MC b/c I read that flatter bars will need flatter MC than orig.

Switches b/c they are old, faded and chipped. They still function well. Is there a good way to restore them? I just assume do the bars and everything on them.

    Gotcha.

Yes, they can be restored. XJ4Ever has all of the labels, etc., and many of the "pieces parts" that go into them.

You will need a flatter master cylinder if you're getting away from the "buckhorn" bars. A direct swap would be one from a 650 Seca or any of the XJ700s; or again, check with chacal.

This might help choosing bars: http://www.bikemaster.com/handlebars.html

Sure they are. You even still have the red insert in your off/run/off switch (although those are available now too.)

    The master will get replaced so the lever perch is covered;

the switch pod itself could be disassembled, stripped, sanded smooth and repainted and new labels applied. That housing isn't that far "gone" it's just ugly.

Sounds good. So my shopping is now:

Bars - I will use link provided for help decided.

M/C - Any opinion on these from ebay?

Mirrors - TBD based on bars

Grips - basic grips are simple enough, but what about heated? Any recommendation? I would like to also consider heated gear. Does that affect my heated grip purchase? e.g. unified control system etc.

That kinda looks like a brother to the generic Chinese M/C I have on my XS.

i had one of those MC on my maxim, from the same seller, worked fine.
heated anything is going to tax your charging system, they just weren't made with a lot of excess capacity

Although a lot of people dont like them because of the look I'd go barend, nothing beats them for visibiity, I use Halcyon on my bikes

I like my bikemaster daytona bars a lot, can't go wrong with them. I got the ones with open barends to fit barend mirror adapters.

I first got a set of euro bars, but the pullback was not enough for me making me lean forward. Now it's perfect.

Yep Daytona bars on the 550. Perfect blend between sport/cruiser. Can lean back and cruise or can drop down and open it up. Keep in mind that many bars listed as Euro or Daytona come in a variety of measurements. My pullback is 6" if it was 7" or more I think I'd be a bit cramped when laying down.

Needed new brake lines, rerouted clutch cable for now, but the shorter Seca cable is on my shopping list. Everything else was cake. I've looked into heated grips and based on the current draw with a solid battery I don't see an issue. But leave them on and your battery would quickly be toast.
