Looks like the seat has been retrofitted and overall the bike shows that its been well taken care of. I wanted to share this because I find it to be a unique bike in my opinion. Anyone know what the "r75/7" means? Also where would the valves (and would it have shims like our XJs?) be located? The whole engine type is not what I'm used to seeing since I'm younger than this bike so just wondering what else I could learn today :D Anyone else agree this bike looks cool?

My old roommate had an old bmw that was cafe style. Called it a toaster. I love its looks. But my maxim x destroys it power wise. Ive still always wanted one. I drove a 2002 bmw 540i sport for awhile and it was a beast. Ive always respected bmw's since.

    "R75" means it's a 750; the "/7" indicates 1977.

Valves are adjusted by screw-and-locknut adjusters under the individual valve covers for each cylinder. (No shims.)

And they are one heck of a nice bike. A TRUE classic.

7 doesn't denote the year just the "series"

I owned an R75/7 for a year until a head on collison with a van wrote it off, bit underpowered but once up to speed capable of sitting there all day and a 320+km range

Front brakes are incredibly crap on them but can be improved

That bike also doen't have the stock 24litre tank and it looks something like an R65LS seat on it

yeah if I was an avid bike collector with excess money I'd consider purchasing this one. (is it worth this much honestly?) It looks like it could be worth something if kept in great condition for a long time, but with purchasing my own house & still paying off student loans, all I can do is snoop around craigslist and learn a thing or two more about motorcycles. I agree, something about bmw's have a certain distinction to them honestly for me. Never rode one but I'm sure they are a nice solid bike.

Thanks for sharing guys! keep more stories coming too

If the bikes are anything like the cars the community woulx be fun, with the 540 every bmw you passed wanted to race or cruise. It made driving pretty fun.

They are, cheap for parts and easy to do basic work on, far easier than an XJ anyway

I have a 1977 R100 in the garage being turned into a Pre82 race bike

The bike looks nice. I'm not sure if the parts are that readily available, but the price point is just right.

Looks like a really classic style too. If I had money to spare..... ( cry me a river ) ... haha
