Lost a close friend in a hit and run Sunday. Guy backed out of his driveway without looking, after he just got done beating up his girlfriend. Hit my buddy throwing him from his bike into on coming traffic. I was offered his bike by his family. there is not much damage to the bike, mostly cosmetic. Would it be offensive if I didn't take it. Don't want a reminder of his death every time I take it for a ride. What do you think.

    Take it off their hands.
It's just a symbol of grief to them.

If you can't get yourself to ride it in your friends honor and memory ...
    Sell it.

Either way, ... don't let them have to agonize about what to do.

    Sorry for your loss.

I would take the bike off their hands so they don't have to deal with it and be reminded of the accident.

Then I would fix what needed to be fixed (so it's safe to ride) and donate it in his name to a children's or vet's charity for auction.

That may give them some more piece of mind knowing that something good will come from something so terrible.

Super sad, condolences to you and his family and other friends.

Grief should never be marred by material items.

    +1 on tskaz's idea.

thanks everyone for the kind comments and whishes. Have taken tskaz's suggestion to heart and I think I will do that. Fix it up and go from there. Those Vulcans are nice bikes, should be able to make a nice memorable contribution for him and his family. Thanks again for the wishes and suggestions.

Just another thought, domestic violence awareness would be a good donation spot too. Possibly help someone else before they do such an act.

What a horrible event, my condolences to you and to the family.

    Sorry for your loss,

hit and run - how could the guy think he could get away with it, coming from his beat-up GF's house??

I hope they put him UNDER the jail !

+1 on donating the bike to do some good.

Get the bike out of the families way so they don't have to look at it.

If you like the bike, then ride the thing and every time you pull out remember your friend is ridding by your side.

I have lost many brothers over the years and I always have to remember that every one of them is finding the best roads to share with me when my time here is over.

Yes, he just retired from the Air Force 6 months ago. Yes they did catch him. They cant find the truck he hit my friend with and he is in jail. Going away for a long time, this was his 4 domestic violence charge, 2 dui, now felony fleeing the scene of an accident causing death. Forgot to mention he has not had a drivers license in 15 years. We got the word yesterday from some local police officers in our town, that the inmates in the local jail where he is locked up, have been keeping close to him in a lot of ways.
