I really don't care what year the seat is but I want a seat like the front half of one I saw in a picture of an 85 XJ700. It looks like it would make a nice comfy solo seat for my 83 XJ750. Has anyone mounted one and if so is the front mounting bracket the same and how does the back of the front seat mount?

    Thanks :D

    8) I'm a fat man so wide is what I am looking for. I have a seat from a Kawasaki concourse that I may cut down and see if I can make it work but then again I could pass it on to someone who wants it the way it is for the cost of a used solo seat maybe.

The xj700 seat is a split seat, the passenger portion has a rear tab that slides into a mount at the rear of the fender and 2 screws in the front that hold it down. The driver seat also has a plastic tab at the rear that slots into the frame with the regular spring loaded latches towards the mid/front. I know the earlier xj650 used a single piece seat so they dont swap but I dont know if the earlier xj750 used a single or two piece seat, from many pictures I have looked at I get the impression that it was similar to the xj650 style one piece though.

Yes it is a single piece seat. I was just hoping the front slip under the rear tank mounting area so I could just worry about the attachment in the rear of the seat.

I may just shorten the stock seat pan and pull the seat cover over the back and secure it. I would just have to set up a bracket to attach the rear of the seat since the front will slide under tank like it does now.
