Hey everybody. Has anybody else experienced credit card fraud. I ordered some things from Bikebandit, Ebay and Amazon for my xj, but other than that, no unusual activity. Just wondering because some guy 4 states from me had an expensive dry cleaning bill and very expensive taste in bagels. WTF!!!!

Best to use PayPal on ebay for sure. Never had any problems using cc on Amazon, and haven't ordered from BB, but they seem like a rep. company. It's good that you caught it as many people don't keep close tabs on their accounts, but they should in today's world.

I've had three incidents over the past 15 years, one via PayPal. In every case our money was refunded, our account closed, and a new account opened, with a new card sent to us within 24 hours of the fraud report being filed. It's good practice to have only one card that you use for online transactions, and that is not connected to any bank account. I even have a separate card that we use for travel. Limiting your exposure is the key to not being left on the hook for theft.

Yeah. Its unfortunate that you have to worry about stuff like that. My wife and I are considering buying preloaded cash cards so the damage potential isn't so great. We were refunded and issued a new card. I was just wondering, Bikebandit is the only site I haven't bought from before, but have never heard about a similar situation from the whole lot of people that have ordered from them. I"M NOT BASHING BIKEBANDIT.com... Well lesson learned. It could have occurred at a 7-11 or walmart for all I know with all the crazy tricks these people have now. I guess they can steal your card buy just standing next to you now. GRRR.

Dude, credit cards have limited liability. Lose your pre-loaded cash card to an ID theif, and they steal REAL MONEY (yours). Same with a debit-card. If they steal a credit card, they are only stealing a LOAN, from the bank issuing the card, and if you prove that you didn't make the purchase (police report will suffice) it's the bank's problem, not yours, and it's THEIR money, not yours. THEY gave the loan to the wrong person (because their security was bad, account was compromised, etc), you didn't.

In addition to that, if services weren't rendered, anything with backing, but especially credit cards, can do a charge back, and get your money back. So much easier with a credit card, again, because the bank is just canceling a loan, not getting YOUR money back.

Credit card fraud happens. It's built into the banks' business models. They don't even chase little fish. Accounts get compromised as part of larger hacking organizations. Heck, I even lost mine, and had all of the charges on it for someone's crazy night (it bought them gas, dinner at TGIFridays, and a bunch of booz at some weird club  ). Looking at the charges makes you feel angry, helpless, curious, a lot of emotions. But in the end, the credit card removed the charges (I also notified them that the card was missing as soon as I noticed) and it wasn't my problem, no matter how I felt.

Don't let it get to you. The more you think about something you can't actually help, the more you let it actually hurt you.

The real key is keeping a close eye on your account for suspicious charges, and notifying the credit card company of any as soon as you see them.

Use a credit card and you shouldnt worry too much. NEVER DEBIT.
The credit card companies LOVE that we all use their system to buy stuff online, and will do just about whatever it takes to keep it that way. This includes:

-Refunding you completely for any fraudulent activity
-Enhancing security as best they can
-Notifying you when they suspect fraudulent activity

They want to keep us feeling secure with online purchasing; if they didn't, we would all catch on pretty quick and ditch the plastic.

Best of all, they create those credit digits out of thin air so its not much of a loss to them (you didnt think that was someones hard earned money they were 'lending' you?). Sure, they have to 'write it off', but so what? they'll get bailed out in no time! Dont worry about the banks they will be just fine...
