So got a new set of hard bags and my shock mount studs aren't long enough. I have the extender nut things to mount my backrest but they aren't long enough for both. Any one have a idea on where I can get longer extension pieces or another way to remedy the issue other than cutting the bolt part off the extensions and welding in a longer one or building one from scratch.

Go to Lowe's or Tractor Supply and look for a extension bolt( long nut that screws onto the bolt and has a stud on the end).

Best options I can easily find would be hex couplers http://www.mcmaster.com/#hex-coupling-nuts/=n6f6nb You can also get them from most hardware stores and farm supply stores in some different varieties also. Using something like that would allow you to use whatever length bolts on either end that would suit your needs best.

The hex couplers will probably be the easiest find and most likely at Lowe's for the metric ones. Don't think Tractor Supply has much to offer in metric sizes.

I was thinking of using couplers and bolts if I had to make something up. My other though was to cut down the coupler to the size I want and then weld a stud to it.

Welding would of course depend on what type material those couplings are made of. Some are steel, some are cheap pot metal. Might be best to just use the couplers and bolts.

the only problem I see with the coupler and bolts is it will be added width at the mount point which I would rather not have.

What you are looking for is called a male-female threaded hex standoff. Very hard to find for anything over M5 size. I was quoted $350 special order for a pair of M10

The next best option is the coupling nut with a bolt. Any machinist can shorthen the length of the coupling nut in a lathe/mill. Just let them know how long you need them.

IIRC. The shock mount studs are M10x1.5. Use the standoff that you have to verify this.

Get the stainless standoff, and use a stainless, or chrome bolt with both flat, and lock washers. Also use a flat washer between the bag mount, and the backrest mount.

ACE hardware stocks the chrome nuts, bolts, washers.
