1st, check to see if the drain trap is accessible.......................and also, fish around the trap inside the toilet...they may be sitting there....

2nd.....take the ignition switch off, and whatever other things you may have used another key for--and take them to a locksmith. If he's a good one, he should be able to either make you a new key, or re-core the cylinders for new keys.

    3. Buy replacement switch, cap, locks, etc....

I actually still had my key code on my ignition switch assembly. I was able to just order a pair of keys for my bike with the numbers and it didn't cost much at all. In fact, I believe I ordered them off of Ebay. There are many places that will cut you keys if you have the numbers.

get to the back of your ignition switch......it should be on the the back of it--you may have to play around with light angles, etc...... to be able to read it.

Now, here's a trick that works often for me.......if you can't read it, take a good digital picture of it. Then put the picture on your computer and do some editing with changing the contrast, color, polarity, saturation ,etc......often it is possible to enhance things enough to finally read it. Granted, just as often it doesn't work......but I always take a shot at it--and can get results.

    Good luck,

OK i got a gas tank from a buddy of mine, he broke off the key half way in the lock... (so not all the pins are moved yet) so i got the tank for 5$... but anyway the locksmith said all he can do is drill out the lock. are there aftermarket gas caps?

Is it possible to get a piar of needle points against the sides of the remainder of the key? Maybe you can pry it out. If not, then your key smith is correct........drill it out. Then, use a screwdriver the turn the dogs at the bottom of the cylinder. Open the cap, remove the mounting bolt. Now, lift the cap assembly off. Get there are plenty of forums about replacing/restoring lock cylinders, so that's easy.

As far as replacing the whole thing, any 550, 650, 700, 750 maxim gas cap, 650rj seca, or 81-86+ virago cap will interchange. These caps are NOT rare, they're readily available, plentiful, and not expensive.

    1. Tie a rope around adorable nephew.
    2. Explain what the keys looked like.
    3. Flush the adorable nephew, keeping hold of the other end of the rope.
    ...
    4. PROFIT!

Yep. Had both issues. No keys when I bought the bike because one remaining key was broken off in the tank lock. Removed ignition lock and got key made. Then drilled and replaced the gas cap with a matching drum. Shiny, new chrome to boot!
