I am getting an oil leak from the plug in the picture and it doesn't seem to be leaking in there from anywhere else and just seems to be leaking from inside the allen key hole on the plug. any idea on a quick fix or if it is normal?

P.S. sorry for such a high res photo -.- stupid phone

well i was looking at it and i dont see anywhere on the outside of it at where it would leak down. the only place i can honestly see the oil leaking through is where the allen key would go which is in the middle of the plug... so i'm wondering if it has a hole or a crack through it

    Pull it.
    Tape it.
    Try it.

It will either leak or won't.

If you find that its rashed or fractured, ... a temporary fix is a METRIC Pipe Plug.

    M20X1.5 Allen Pipe Plug.

2~3 tight layers of Teflon Tape.
Dress the Teflon with with Pipe Dope or LockTite Thread Sealant.

Please grease the gear change pivot while you are down there! :)

Back to the plug in question for a sec.

A lot of people unfamiliar with these bikes get the misguided notion that it's an oil drain so they attempt to use it as such. It's quite likely somebody tried to remove it and cracked it in the process. It's not a "maintenance plug."

I would have a replacement on hand (and a new o-ring for it) BEFORE you remove it in case it breaks apart on you when you take it out.

Gear change pivot? i'm kind of a noob when it comes to motorcycles. i've been teaching myself as i go. Edit: ah nevermind i caught on with you and yeah i'll throw some light grease on it.

If anything fitz i think i will try what rick said for a temporary fix if it does happen to fall apart on me or what not but i'm going to be sure to be extra careful with it.

btw does anyone know if these have a recommended torque for them?

I'd use "less than recommended" torque in case the threads were damaged.

There is no torque spec because those plugs were never intended to be removed.

I suspect the bike has been down on that side and that has started the leak

Those plugs and o-rings are available out there - NOS. I had to replace one last year since the previous owner installed an oil pressure gauge fitting that was leaking.

I'm betting that the Plug is fractured.
The picture seems to show a bit of rash at 5 O'clock.

    That Plug-cap is fragile.
    PLUS, ... it's hollow.
Therefore, if it's fractured ... the integrity is compromised.

A SOLID Plug will curtail the leak until a OEM replacement is obtained.

ok i solved it and i don't think it was fractured or anything but i replace the o ring in it and did 3 wraps of teflon tape and i haven't seen a drip of oil yet
