Hello all, I recently joined, well three or so days ago and this forum has already been an amazing resource! I just purchased a XJ750-R Seca and she is a beauty! Only 13,000 miles on it and carbs recently cleaned and synced! I need to check the valve clearances because the guy I purchased it from said it hadn't been done yet, and according to spec it is supposed to happen about every 10,000 miles so it is about time.

I also just purchased a set of Dynacoils and some new wires because I need this thing to start right up cold because I plan to ride it during the winter. I have also on order some NGK Iridium spark plugs and a new oil filter because the previous owner said he did an oil change but the oil level was very low and I want to think that he just lied to me and that it isn't burning though oil that fast.

Also the bike has pod filters on it and I asked and the guy didn't have the stock air box so it looks like I will be continuing to use the pods, but I kinda like the look. I am thinking about upgrading to some K&N clamp on pods but I am not sure it is worth it, right now it has some foam filters that seem to be working fine.

But Yeah I love the bike it is my second bike, the first one I had to sell to pay for tuition but this new XJ was a steal at only $950. It has recently been painted which kinda bothers me, it looks nice but I wonder what it was covering up?

A few final things, I am thinking about some flat slide carbs the 34mm Mikuni smooth bore ones, what do you guys think? Worth it or not?

I am excited to be on here and be able to talk, if any guys in Minnesota want to get together or chat, I have some nice homebrew that needs to be drunk, so catch ya later.

    Stop-off at Walgreens or CVS.
Grab a bottle of Black Nail Polish.

Paint that auxiliary gas shut-off Black, ... leaving just the end of the switch a Red line.
Give the Clamps a Black-out, too.

    It virtually disappears.

    Now you see it ...
    Then, ... you don't!

Ah, that actually looks a lot better. I am going to try to fix the petcock but if that doesn't go over well then I will for sure do this.

Welcome to another Minnesotan. Nice ride, but I can't see why you'd want to take it out in the winter, even down in the Cities. Two tires, salt, ice...that's an accident waiting to happen!

That's doable. I road into November and would have been out in May if it hadn't been for those crazy snowstorms we had this spring. I love the snow but jeezus....

Welcome. I hope you enjoy this site as I have. I remember seeing that Seca for sale.. Craigslist? If you look in the dropbox folder in my signature, you'll find a PDF of a review of that bike (the year the fairing was included) should you be interested.

The PO probably painted it blue just because the paint was faded. It doesn't sound like you are looking to return it to stock, so why sweat it? Have you checked the color of your plugs? With the pods, you just want to make sure the jetting was properly adjusted to burn correctly.

As you've seen on many postings here, don't assume the PO was completely truthful when selling you a bike. 30 years does a lot to all things rubber, including your brakelines. So you should go through the bike completely before putting mileage on it. I know, it's a drag, but there are some serious safety concerns.

I live in Fridley and am always up to tasting your home beer and checking your bike over with you. :)

BTW, you might want to come to Diamond's Coffee Shop on the 2nd Monday of each month to interact with other vintage japanese bike owners: http://vjmc-mn.com/
