    Hi,

So last year I bought a 1985 XJ-700X for cheap and started tinkering with it, it hasn't been running for years. First thing which was obvious was that the front brake needs work, it was completely taken off and the cover for the brake fluid was missing.

So now I just put the parts back on after getting a new cover from chacal (thanks!) but since I've never worked on brakes I got a question:

I installed the old brake pads, but they seem really stuck. I can't imagine the oil pressure to ever be enough to get them to move. Is this normal or are you supposed to be able to move them by hand?

Either way I'm planning to replace the pads and the oil lines but I was just wondering about this.

In order to get the Brakes "Unstuck" you have to COMPLETELY Overhaul the Calibers.

Any parts that move or travel need to be cleaned, restored and lubed prior to reassembly.

In particular, ... The Caliper PISTONS will need to be removed and the Caliper SEAL removed.
The Channel which the Caliper Seal is fitted into NEEDS to be Cleaned.

You have to scrape the Seal Locating Channel free of all buildup of Brake Dust crud.

PM member "chacal" our Parts Supplier.
    Get Stainless Wrapped Brake Lines.

That Crud forces the Seal out-of-round and is a major contributor to Front Brake Binding.
