I want to reduce the flow through my engine to correct a lean condition so I can get it to a tech 60 miles away.

It seams to me if I pack my 4 into cone with some steel wood to restrict the airflow it should richen the burn allowing me to ride the bike since I can't trailer the bike.

so my thought id to pack the exhaust with steel wood and make a spark plug run any check burn on plug in the hope that it will restrick air flow enough to get bike 60 miles to tech.

What you all think, it should work right?

What you'd really be doing is slowing down the exhaust gasses (a little), which won't result in a richer mix. If there is no way to get the bike moved via trailer you can richen the mixture by running with the choke on partway. Personally...I'd rent, or beg, a pickup to transport the bike in.

or if you cant get a truck to get ti somewhere, try asking some other members if they would come over to our place and help with the bike. check out the member map (link in my signature) and see who is near you! iv had great success with asking for help from other members! and made some good friendships too!

i think it will. going from a collector to straight pipes makes them lean.
i took plates out of a supertrapp and it got richer the more plates i took out.
how much or what kind? that's the question.
i'd use "0" anything finer might just plug it up

Well I am going to try a plug run with a touch of enrichiner on and see if that wouks first. I will see if I can get a controlled richer burn. If I can't get a good result I will try the steel wool.
I realise this will slow the exhaust due to back pressure. Isn't that what astock exhaust does? Less flow more back pressure richer mix.

I will have to try it but I feel like the principal is valid.

Here is a side by side from original burn to best yet with half a package #3 steel wood.

This is just to get me up to techs house to get computer analysis done and rejetted after removing the steel wool

Is that still too lean? I could put the rest of steel wool in if needed.

Well adding the rest of steel wool didn't make it any better, just took away power.

Looks like I am on the search for a ride for me and bike.. I have a trailer available but just traded my big van for smaller one two days ago so no more hitch.... timing sucks sometimes.
