    Hey everyone,
I just recently purchased a 1982 Maxim 650 and currently in the resurrection phase. So far I have racked up a nice bill of new parts and she is currently at a shop having the carbs rebuilt/cleaned and having the valves checked. After that its rebuild the master cylinder new brake lines/shoes, replace the fuse panel and ride her for the rest of the season. My plan is to completely tear her down and rebuild her into a bobber this winter, my dad has a restoration business, mainly WWII military vehicles so this will be my first bike attempt. I am a welder/fabricator by trade so building custom side covers and such wont be difficult. Ive done quite a bit of reading on here lately and have the say the wealth of knowledge is definitely going to come in handy. If there are any central PA riders here and would like to wrench I have a large shop and tons of tools, I am just a novice mechanic though I am willing to learn. As soon as I learn how to resize pics on my tablet I will be posting one

it sounds like youve got a good plan in motion already!

for resizing pic try using photobucket.com it has a resizing option and makes it really easy to post in the forums.

check out the member map in my signature to look for for other PA people.

Beautiful bike :) I just got the same one 2 weeks ago as my first bike, you'll love it! We're in the same boat too. I need to get the carbs rebuilt/cleaned. I'm going to try the valve clearances myself though.

What kind of shop said they'd rebuild those carbs and check valve clearances?

Good luck to you, it sounds like you know exactly what you want! Man if only I had the know how to turn mine into a bobber..... Keep us updated with pics!

Sorry its been awhile life happens.
Resurrecting the old girl has taken a bit longer than I had hoped but such is life, everything has been completed mechanically except for the carb rebuild. I pulled the rack yanked the bowls off and found the float arms pillars on the number 2 carb had been previously broken and someone had attempted a repair with JB Weld. So I had to source another set of carbs, just waiting on the UPS guy to show up. Anyways I found motorcycle salvage yard in Claysburg PA and just spent several hours digging through tons of parts. This place has a little of everything. The owner recently inherited it from his father and he has no real idea of what all is there. The place is not organized well only about half of the stuff is marked. It is all Japanese motorcycles from the mid 60's to the early 2000's all of the bikes have been dismantled so you kind of have to know what you are looking for. The owner just shows you the general layout and says have at it. I didn't come accross much xj stuff but he told me he saw some boxes marked maxim recently but couldnt remember exactly where. I found a front fender for mine and some turn signals. He did have a complete 82 xj1100 motor minus the carbs but the intake boots were there and in excellent shape. I am planning a return trip very soon and will be bringing reinforcements. There truly has to be 20,000 parts, I couldnt even get into some spots because the sheer amount of things. The good thing is 99% of the stuff is indoors.

    Cheers!

Claysburg, PA its about 20 miles south of Altoona traveling towards Bedford. The name of the place is Dively's motorcycle and atv salvage here is the link to their facebook page www.facebook.com/DivelysMotorcyleAtvSalvage Spell it excatly like I have it here. I am aware cycle is spelled incorrectly
