    hi there
i am searching for infos to swap coil pack from xj 1100 1979 to my yamaha seca 550 1982 .

i found a lot of infos but still not sure if i can do that because of the resistance required. my coil on xj550 cant be checked .cracked and wire corroded .

on the xj 1100 1979 it is written :USE EXTERIOR RESISTOR . nothing is written on the seca . i already swap them but didnt try to start it because of missing valve cover gasket that i am waiting for since 3 long week :(

    thanks for the help

I would have liked to help you with this but it seems that my computer can't handle the cross-reference parts I have on a CD ROM, due to the new Java version.

Bigfitz is supposed to have a good source to check the compatibility of XJ parts from one model to another.

i did some homework and found something ................

on the seca is there suppose to have all plug caps with 5 k ohms ?
    coil on xj 1100 have 15 000 k without cap +-

    coil on xj 550 have 12 000 k without cap .

is there too much difference ?

    now i have 6 caps with 5k resistance and 2 with 10 k resistance .

i really dont know on wich bike was the 10 k .

right now with cap on the seca 550 i have 23k ohms resistance on each coil with the xj1100 coil .

i know i read a post yesterday with all the specs you are talking about but cant find it this morning

bigfitz is the seca550 guru here, he would tell for sure if you could install xj1100 coils on a seca550.

Send him a personal message (pm button on his profile) if he doesn't show up by himself on your thread!

The original part numbers for the XJ550 SECA and XJ1100 were replaced both by the same numbered coil 4G08231009.
The original XJ1100 coil was 4H78232061, which is also found on the XJ650, 750 and 900, the 900 also has the superceded part number.
So i would say that you are safe to use coils from any of those bikes mentioned, and maybe some others that i've not noticed, but do your research.

Swapping for older Coils may not be the best remedy.
There has been numerous Coil-related issues in the past year.
Like the Fuse Panel; aging is probably their worst enemy.
