I would like to make some videos with the maxim x. Some acceeration pulls, some scenic rides, and just cruising. I want to try and capture the beauty of our bikes.

My question is which model should i get? What ones do you guys use? Do
I need to spend $300.00 or not that big of a difference? Im planning on using the chest mount.

The $199.00 takes 5.0 MP, the $299.00 11.0 MP and the $399.00 12.0 MP still shots, otherwise they are not too much different. But the one for $399.00 comes with the remote and I think is rated for deeper depths as fare as going under water. The other two the remote is optional. I believe the cheaper one has the same HD video resolution as the mid range one. The $399.00 can go up to 4096 x 2160 and has some minor other features such as burst mode. It may have a faster fps (frames per second) on the video. Not sure. All three have WiFi. So that means you can use your cell phone to transmit the image the camera is seeing so you can adjust the angle for example when it is already mounted on your head. Otherwise your whole ride video may be of your tank or the sky.

I was thinking about one as well, and I was looking at the Hero 3 Silver. After doing some research, I think it has the best sound quality.

You had mentioned the chest mount, and I think it's the best compromise. You won't be making your viewers dizzy from a helmet cam, and you'll be giving a clear view of where your going as they look over the "Mickey Mouse Ear" gauges on the X.

Good to know. Ill look into them. I think the helmet mounts look kinda goofy. I saw a youtube video with a chest mount and i loved the angle. Not to mention its less obvious.

I may go look at some tonight.

I would love to have 1 by the time you buy accessories and mounts will be a $500 drop. I can by a used xj project bike for that kind of money. Some day someone will be selling a good used one and i will pick it up then.

I remember that video Thrasher. Didn't know it was a Hero 3 Silver capturing some real action.

Some friends have a silver great quality images/video. They run helmet mounts (bikes/wheelers) as well as surface mounts (wheelers/trucks). Helmets work fine as long as the person wearing it remembers they are running a camera and moves their head smoothly. Haven't had an issue with the surface mounts although the fixed view sometimes sucks if someone does something cool off to the side. They are getting a waterproof kit soon to use it on the jet skis and boat.

Doesnt youtube limit the size of the video as well? Or can you upload 1080p?

I have a GoPro Hero2 and I love it. I haven't had a chance to get any video while on the Seca, but I have shot many videos while out ripping on my quads and snowmobile. If you can find a Hero2 cheap, I would grab it and see if its something you want to sink approx. $500 on to go up to the GoPro3. The biggest problem I have had is getting the camera angled properly. I have a lot of video clips looking too far down. I purchased the optional LCD backpack for the camera, and it helps out when using helmet mounts or various frame mounts. It makes it so you can see where the camera is pointing. These cameras shoot some spectacular video, BUT... the videos shown on tv have a lot of post editing done, so don't get discouraged when your clips don't have that "as seen on tv" look. There are plenty of good/ cheap (sometimes free) video editing programs available.

Here is s link to my videos if you want to check them out. All where shot with the GoPro Hero2.

    Good luck!! Have Fun!!
